This setup is when I was using the radio shack 10 ohm resistors and I had to use 2 in parallel.  I was also using a capacitor but with the regulation and whatnot in teh driver it really isn't necessary.

In this picture teh positive has a spring right on the wire for connection to the driver in the battery compartment and the negative has the two resistors soldered to it.
Then I set it up so that the resistors touch the inside diameter of the barrel.

Please HELP me!!!!!!
Someone know and can tell me what's the power of a DVD laser diode?
And what's the other pin of a laser diode?

heres the pin outs of the diode, its mw power is like between 140mw to 200mw if you push it, but dont do that without cooling.

Heres a pic of the pin outs of the laser diode from Skram0 The othe pin is the photodiode, its used for controlling the output but in dvd ones its not connected to anything on the inside, so you can cut if off if you like.

Here is how I prefer to do my lasers. I setup the back portion of the module and cut it in half. Then cut grooves into the side so that the resistor and pin can poke out the side. The back half of the module keeps it stable.

hey kenom i made another dorcy like this today,
i just wanted to say i used 1.2ohm resistor and it dropped from
400mA to 275mA so i tied 2 together for .6 ohms and got about 350mA

o so the 2.5 ohm resistor is only connected to the negitive leed from the axis module directly into the negitive contact wait is it also wired to the positive lead?otherwise i got i down you pick up your 2.5ohm from radio shack?with a +-5% tolorance.

I don't have a resistor on the negative part. ONly the positive. the negative leg is just a wire. You will not find a 2.5 ohm resistor at radio shack. You'll have to call around your town and see if someone carries individual components. that's what I did. found a hobby shop that has some so I got 2.5 ohm and 5 ohm and 3.3 ohm resistors In order to show you how it's wired to the diode I'll have to wait until my next build which should be tomorrow sometime. (I hope) I'm outta spacers again and need to have some more turned for me.

well srry for being such a nusance i ordered my new diode on account i blew it im gonna pick up at radioshack a 5ohm resistor since it will give me some more power than 10ohms and the 5ohm resistor is soidered on the positve leg just like and extensition?(well a longer leg

low power?

hey guys. how come my laser cannot burn anythig? do I need optics to focus beam into single point? I ripped 16x pioneer DVD burner, built daedals driver, put LD into collimating module, put it into heatsink, hooked to the batteries.... I find it weak. no match burning :(. it just burnt a little hole on surface of black plastic plate, and thats all :(. Im driving it at 3,2V@300mA, maybe modification to driver needed to get more juice. should I push LD harder? :)
see pics, cant wait for your opinions, advice....

heatsink

hello. I found a nice heatsink for LD modules. Made from transistor hatsink, just drilled hole bigger, to hardly fit module. I think that only half of heatsink would be sufficient, I just had no time to cut in two :)

take a picture of the light from just the diode, no foucising lens or collaminating lens, from like a foot away that might be because something got on the lens of the diode, mine was just like that wouldnt like a match just would smoke plastic slightly, unfortuantly mine was from plastic that driped on it and melted and i had to buy a new one, I assume your using the aixis module, if you are make sure you widened the hole in the back of the lens if you didnt it might have melted and dripped on the diode, at that power it should burn really well, if thats not the problem then i dont know whats wrong.

....lazer.... ;D ;D ;D

well, Im done... have no idea what happened, LD just dimmed into LED i gues...   faulty capacitor? I dont think I screwed the circuit, but thats my second (and last one) LD that passed out [smiley=cry.gif] [smiley=cry.gif] [smiley=cry.gif] [smiley=cry.gif] [smiley=cry.gif].

and that module is ripped off el cheapo laser pointer, all made of brass i guess. LD is just fit to the back part, inside spring pushing agaist LD, and on lens on the front / |LD|\\\()| LD, spring, lens, cover /. and theres only one hole, which you can see on the pic, so that hole sholud be bigger?

...doesnt matter now, I run out of LDs [smiley=cry.gif]
