I agree!

Laser power is a touch and go thing.

Ideally: I'm thinking to switch between high-current and a "simmer"(LOW)current at the perfect duty cycle as to not over ablate that precious tiny LASER chip sitting on its massive heat sink.  I learned from CO2 laser disiplines/mechanics that the right width/freq. of pulses; will make the most eff. cut!!!!!!!!

I now, want to claim: If you use entangled LASER beams & a coincedence timing detection pulse triger circuit in referance with the entangled beams, just right; it could increase effectivness greatly. Entangled detection could triger the pulse while the atoms are idle. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Think I'm kidding?
Just Google photon entanglation; you will find amazing facts/findings that you can't wrap your mind around!! It proves instantaneous action at a distance!

All this comes down to is each LASER current pulse should be triggered by the simultanous detection of photons measured after there sourse paths have crossed.

Cause Kenom was like one of/ if not the first person in the forums to make a DVD laser in a flashlight.
His project is one of the main backing things of all our homemade lasers today. He kinda brought it to the forum.
That's why.

Oh, I stand corrected on that, and as such, Kenom is another LPF member that has earned highest respect. The moderator title seemed to me to look like a bug in the site programming because of the YaBB prefix,...... :-?.

Actually I am only moderator over the experiments and modifications section. I appreciate the vote of confidence from Comidt and Death Angel and all those out there that feel that way.

Hey guys i was just wondering has anyone experimented with a PIC microcontroller to get the high frequency output for the chips ?
i was just wondering it would be pretty simple to just program a pic that would get the desired output and it could be easily changed as well.

I have a PIC here and a programmer... the problem is that it is VERY expensive (compared to what it will be used for) and too big. An RC circuit is a much better route.

Good and intelligent suggestion nonetheless Those PICs have a very nice curve and are excellent at controlling things with extremely high frequency.

Well, not to sound bitter or anything, but why was the 555 timer idea from my thread a bad idea then? It has a small footprint, requires no programming, runs at up to 2mHz in astable mode and costs around $1.50. Not to mention that they are available at any electronics parts store like radio shack.

Well, 2 Millihertz is far too slow

Well, didn't know it would go so fast, but 40ns on/off translates to 12MHz. You can try it, go on! I would be glad to hear that it works.
In the meantime, I will try my own circuit for 2$

but yeah, try it!

PIC16 too expensive :S well you could say that usually about $4-5 for a pic then crystal $4-5.

Hey - WHERE are you getting them for that cheap ? I htought these were a lot more expensive ? Maybe I am thinking of something else, but isn't a PIC microcontroller what is used in Boomdog's DIY laser show ?? Someone correct me, please !!!!!

Guys...

I'll give u all a good tip if your worried about the price of components...

If u need parts like micro-controllers and LDO regulators 555 timers and basically any IC's you can get all of them absolutely free just by ordering samples directly from the manufacturer... I have recently graduated from University and while I was there, I must have ordered well over 400 components absolutely free, prob worth >$1000, for my projects. I have personally ordered from Texas Instruments (which pretty much have everything you'll need), Microchip, MAXIM-IC and more.

Best thing is there here in a matter or days 3-5 usually. So, if you only prototyping or making a handfull of circuits just sample them for free. If you making large quantities then still order them from the manufaturer themselves (eg. micro from TI that will do anything you'll need for laser projects $<1 no xtal needed (runs of an internal oscillator)).

That is a very good point you have there, but sometimes they actually decide to check on your 'authenticity'. You have to supply good reason for them to supply you with the samples, by being an employee of a company int he field for example.

It does, nevertheless, beat buying in singles at times

Which is where being honest with them can help. I've gotten plenty of samples just telling them that it's for my hobby. Of course I try to buy from the places that have sent me free stuff in the past. ;D

If the price is right... : I always prefer buying from the manufacturer because you end up getting more 'freebies' that make it worth it... but sometimes it's just outright expensive! :-?
