That is cool! I think it can be done if you have a few tools at your disposal.
have a look at the pulse tollerance of some of the high mw diodes out there... its usually a lot higher than the continuous use mw.
You could make a circuit that discharges a capacitor through a 1.5-3mw 445nm blue diode and make a pulse pistol that could zap bugs and stuff...

a pulsed 445 would be cool but I really don't know about pulsed diodes.... Yet! Ever since the battle royal I need this diode in something!
