Hi Larry,
As I recall the EU-38 was around $15.00. I have no idea what it costs to ship one.

wow seems this post went nuts while i stepped out for a couple hours!

larry!

go here:

h t t p://w w w .roithner-laser.at/All_Datasheets/Pricelists/pricelist-c-070717.pdf

that is the most current price data sheet.

from what is says; the EU-37 is $13.15
and the EU-38 is $16.07

as for shipping i am not sure. you can get some shipping info here:

h t t p://w w w .roithner-laser.com/order.html

the info avaliable isnt really helpful except that they state "we ship worldwide by ups, FedEx, DHL, EMS, parcel post or with any other parcel service."
so from that: we know shipping will most defiantly be pretty quick, and shipping prices probabally wont go over $20 but dont quote me on that!

ive gone ahead and sent them an email for shipping costs from their headquarters in Vienna, Austria to california USA. ill update everyone with what they tell me. seeing that tommorow is sunday ill get back to you on monday. i for one am gonna grab an EU-37 and an EU-38. awesome find ericab! ::)

Ericab - BEFORE orderring - why don't you get your feet wet with assembling an interest group for a group buy ? See if anyone else is interested in buying these, and then ship centrally from your place in Cali ? As a bit of advice - do NOT even think that the shipping will be $20 !! DHL, and the other fast methods are VERY expensive from overseas - expect somewhere in the $60 + range for shipping using those methods. Parcel Post would be cheapest, and you MIGHT get the drivers before 1008 starts, but I would not count on it being THAT fast ! If they will mail regular Airmail, then that is where yo may get your $20-$30 postage costs from...definitely hammer them down to a specific amount, and ask about bulk shipping discounts ! Tell them you could possibly order 20 or 30 of these, and ask wht the rate would be then, and possibly there may even be a slight discount for that quantity ! you never know until you ask :)

Yes indeed Awesome find....
I can't wait to see what shipping works out to be!

I think there could be a decent amount of interest in this..the EU-38 looks like the module to go for since it looks like the EU-37 wants input from a APC limiter diode to regulate the power output.

That is the same way the new Newwish (DX) lasers work.

You may want to see if you can get a few to Buy in to a single shipment!

I'm interested.

How about posting in the Buy Sell Trade "Feeler for EU-38 Laser Diode Driver"

Within the post, include everything you know about it so far including a link to the data sheet, and update the post as you learn more. BTW, I am definitely interested...thank you ;)

I would really need to know final cost per with shipping to comit to a number...

let's start with 2, and see how things turn out with shipping and delivery.

I can see 4-6 if shipping and delivery is not out of control...but for now let's use 2 and see where things go.

Thanks Eric. I know I will be in for at least 2. Postage for sending out 50 for example should not be a heck of a lot more than for 1. These drivers are very small and light.

in other words;

if i was to 'overclock' my diode, rated at 130, 200 would be as much as i'd want to risk it no?

You peaked my curiosity.. :) I wanted to see what the diode could do when supplied with 130ma. This was all done at only a foot or so away from the module. It will slice through electrical tape, light a non sharpied safety match instantly, light a white headed match, but the white headed match does take much longer as the focus must be perfect. But even driving the diode with 130ma's, it is still impressive. I was using my TEC too when I did this test.

I am still in favor of the EU-38 as we all know in the future we will be able to get even higher powered red laser diodes cheap. So we might as well be prepared.. :)

hmmm very interesting..
the ONLY reason im interested in the eu37 is its dimensions....10.5 x 18.0 mm.....meaning it could EASILY fit inside the chrome AixiZ housing; which ALREADY nicely fits inside my dorcy jr.! plus i like the fact that it has a jumper on one end which i can attach a pot and mount it externally somewhere on the outside of my dorcy  i think im going to pick up 2, 37's and 1 or 2, 38's.

also; have you tried it at 200mA w/wo heatsinking? what kind of performance did you get?

To me it seems as performance doubles when going from 130 to 200ma. It also seems performance is better with cooling. I know I use the word seems a lot, but I only have matches and tape to use when comparing. When I get my meter, I am sure I will find some interesting things. But of course distance must be taken into account. For example, driving the diode with around 200ma's I was to light a non sharpied safety match at 6 feet. The other thing is lenses, but I have a feeling that all of the plastic Aixiz lenses are the same.

I must add it is tempting for me as well to get a couple of the EU-37 drivers. Maybe you could add it to the feeler. I believe the biggest factor will be postage, so the more of either driver people order, the better.
