i jsut took a pontimeter out of a cd player volumes control its got a black wheal and three prongs in a row on the bottem how do i hook it up ot bat and dc motor for spirograph speed control???

The 2 outside pins will be the resistance track, the middle is the wiper. Connect the middle and one end together, attach the outer ones to the circuit.

There is one thing you ought to know, volume control pots are usually logarithmic, not linear. This means that near the bottom the resistance change per degree turn is small, but as you turn further the resistance changes more quickly.

My first spiro used a log pot, all it means is that speed control is a little hard to set.
