Duty cycle? hahahaha, that's a really sweet build though, I'd like to do something similar with the 50mW single mode 520's. Size of a zippo :D

Haha, you made a series of them! The idea, implementation, and beauty of this project is on the level that of any great artist's series works. Fantastic!

Can't wait to see the one I've helped with come together!

Awesome set! Im assuming the 4th one is 405? Whats the duty cycles like on those, or is it limited by battery life? Those tiny lipo's surely csnt last too long.

I believe these are thermally limited (passively, not actively) as even these tiny lipos can discharge longer than thermal buildup allows since he's using SMPS and not linear tech.

Pretty sweet. What batteris are used in those?

Very tiny high drain lipos.

You're correct, though it's fairly close. Battery capacity limits the run time to about 3 minutes. Thermal properties limit the duty cycle to between 10 and 20 seconds defending on the build. The worst offender is the 475, which requires diving a Nichia 462 at 2.9A, at which point the diode is very inefficient.

405, 445, 465, 475, 520, and 640.

I'm getting really close to a 593.5 using the guts of a Rigel, but that's a real big challenge.

I want a set what is cost of manufacturing and parts

I'm not selling lasers, but in any event, the cost is fairly prohibitive. These were, hands down, the most costly lasers I've ever built. The background to why I was okay with that, is that I built these with the intention that the would be "it" for me - that they'd be the set I'd hold on to forever, locked away, as something to look back on in 50 years, etc. I had a few spare parts made in case some funky new diode comes out in the future, but barring that, this is meant to be my complete collection, eventually, and I'll probably get rid of anything else I still have.

Not asking Rhd for you to build me a set I am asking what did you make the cases out of and where Can I get the material to build some thing similar. I like the smallness of your design and not totally replicate it but do some thing along the same lines. I like the smallness of those and the fact that they are really clean.. You did a fantastic job that is all

I see we're basically at the same point in our laser "careers". Though perhaps you're a bit closer to "retirement" than I, as the remainders on my list are bound to take a while to get the funds and opportunity for, given my financial stature. I could be wrong though, your list may be far more extensive. I digress, in any event, I totally understand your aims.

I'm hoping that the Photino RGB, one complete, will give me a close enough approximation of all remaining wavelengths that I can stop nanometer hunting. That's the theory at least.
