I am what you all would call a super noob. Really.

For my first laser I bought a Alpha-65. I'm not really sure why I bought it. I was looking for something smaller. Its really large and bulky and the only thing I really like about it is the key feature and the lens shutter. The two second delay and the "headphone" jack thing is just annoying. Is there any way to get rid of the two second delay?

If I cant do this easily I'm thinking of trying to sell the laser, either here or craigslist or something, and buy a smaller laser with a higher output for cheaper.

Thanks!

You can't ask for a refund just because you don't like the safety features.

You can bypass the safety plug feature, but not the 2 second delay, unless you want to break your new Alpha :)

Try selling it here and getting a smaller one.

I'm pretty sure you can. Just ask, because of the model doesn't suit you and you expected something else.

Well I've thought about it alot and decided to keep it. As far as bypassing the head phone jack thing, how would I go about doing that? I tried looking on the forums/google and came up with nothing. Any suggestions?

You will have to dismantle the tail cap(that is where it plugs into right?) and bypass the interlock by soldering a lead across the jacks contacts, to simulate the the way the dongle would bridge the gap and complete the circuit.

Or just jam a penny in the end between the battery and the side. Though being of different metals it might cause it to corrode over time when the electrical current passes through it. So you can try other metals/disks too.

That's under the cap by the way.

Mmmmm what about cutting that headphone jack super short so it is barley visible once I put it in the hole?

I would be leaving it in indefinitely. Would that cause problems?

should work! you will probably have to solder the two wires together where you shortened it, though..

Nah there is no wires or anything. I cut the headphone jack so all I have is the small metal plug and it works with that. I'm wondering if there is any damage that would happen if I were to leave the jack in the hole full time.

no damage should happen, if you dont physically rip, shear or snap the remaining plug out.. ;-)
its nothing more than a plug which shortens an open circuit.. meant to be pulled out quickly in case of disaster.. ;-)

I have a Alpha 150, I like the safety-features on this model, except for the 2-second delay. It is really annoying with a intermittent-switched portable-laser.

If anyone does have an idea of how to modify the driver to eliminate this feature, it would be much better.

I am thinking it is just a capacitor on the driver that could be removed and the contacts shorted.

A capacitor to create a 2 second delay would have to be huge, and your laser would just fade in, not come on instantly after 2 seconds. Chances are it uses some kind of IC to do the delay, it's not complicated with many things (Including the famous 555 timer!)

It would not be huge, all you need is a 1.21 Gigawatt Flux Capacitor. Should do the trick.

well, if you are willing to open the laser and make detailed macro-pics of the driver, and poke around with a multimeter at places you are being told, it should be possible! but still there would be some risk involved, both for the host and the driver..
but then, both could be replaced if necessary!
