Found these at a major hardware store for $9.99. It plugs into a car lighter to recharge. Has a single very bright white LED.

Not sure how to open it up-- sending one to DTR to see what he can discover. I have no idea which diode will work the best or of the output of its battery--12vdc maybe?? The front twists to turn on or set it fro recharging- the black part is not metal. A heatsink would need to be made and it prolly will have to stick out the front some.

If nothing else it is a neato LED light that could be kept in you cars' lighter socket.

I'd thought these gadgets could be cool as a host. I preferred the LED Lenser version though. Expensive, (as all good quality is I suppose), but I don't think you'd need a heatsink with this one... Well, maybe something to seat your module but the body would be a good sink...

I suspect the battery would be similar in the one you have there Hak. You'd need a much better one and making it compatible for in-car charging may be a struggle.

^^^ twice the price but a better host for sure. The one I found has a plastic body and so far does not appear or come apart as easily.

I like them both!! Maybe the cheaper on could be converted to run a PHR- cheap diode & driver - not much HS needed and close to the correct out V. true??

Output voltage possibly but only 20mAh is not going to get far! It may be good for a little pointer but no burning at that capacity I feel, but it is a nickel battery so may discharge at a high rate. I might need a sticker saying, "Only good for ONE match or ONE balloon!"

It'd be a cute addition to a pimped ride though...
