Well I was away for a bit and built my RGY scanner/ spirograph but I also started on this:

Its actually a different colour to what the camera picked up confusingly... but the question is what is it :p

Ill probably abandon it but for the moment its cool.

Is it just a red diode, your camera made the wrong color from shining it straight into the lens?

no i have done into the lens shots with my red laser 100mW

im actually no longer sure what it is myself.

Its a diode (I think!) I got from fleabay. But seems to uotput in the UV not blue spectrum. Its virtually invisible and even when its invisible it makes things floresce so I know its working....

camera picks up thet nice blue color which isnt there!

So you know blu-ray diodes a violet right? I know its a dumb question but it seems like its just a normal diode.

very cool! but be careful uv can be very dangerous! can you also shine it on glow in the dark stuff and make it glow! that would be an AWESOME little trick!

Dude, if it's a UV laser diode that's awesomely cool, but could also be awesomely dangerous, please be carefull at shining it on or near your skin, who knows what wavelength this is.Have you taken power readings? (on a thermal meter preferably) :p
