Here's my first labbie -- TEC cooled and using a GB diode.  Output -- 240 mW CW and cool man !!!Easily cuts tape etc ----

$100000000000 --

Actually, I toasted my open can LD by accident last night. Beware too many clip leads :(

This is the SenKat diode , cooled and pushed to 250 mW. Total module draw --- Fan, TEC and LD about 1.5 amps at 7.5 volts. That GB diode is impressive no matter what !!!

Yeah, that's Mike for ya...ask him what 1.4 amps does... ;D

Mike....sweet... ;)

Oops, Mike posted the same time I did..well now you know what 1.4 amps does..

Right -- rub it in !!!!! 1.4 amps spells disaster even for an open can !! That SOB still outs a red LED !!! It won't burn out :D I got an new LG20x today --
I can't be without.........

The module has two current regulators - one for the LD and one for the TEC. A slightly modified DDL current source - still a bit unstable but a little bypassing to quiet the circuit and I'm there.

Nice job, Mike!

I am planning on doing something similar as well. Do you recall the current that's going to the LD for the 250mW output? (300-350mA ??)

Chimo --

You are in the range -- I'll measure later.

Mike

Update ---  260 mW at 0.430 mA.  Measured with an IL1400 meter.  This is the SenKat GB diode.    Don't try this at home.  This current is a little over the knee of the power curve.

Disclaimer: If you push one of these GB diodes this high -- you are beyond specs and on your own ground. I do this because I have several replacement diodes for fun. I recommend that noobs stay within the 250 ma range because all diodes are different.

Very Nice ;)
So, as long as you cool the diode, you can run it that high, right?
Thanks

Nice setup!

I can't really tell from the picture, but how exactly did you mount the diode onto the TEC? Looks like a thread and nut sticking out on top?

Mike... you crazy nut! ;D That looks incredible! I haven't had the time to work on it at all, but I was telling SenKat yesterday that I think I have a nice setup for a self-controlled TEC power... I was thinking of using an N-MOSFET, but then changed it to using a comparator with either a thermistor or an LM35. Give it a shot if you've got the time... it would be pretty cool :) Literally ;)

The Module is an Aixiz which is fitted into a brass housing. The set screw retains the module in the cooled housing.

Ahah -- I have a picture ---

[/quote]It won't be too long before the one that just went into your computer gets pulled for other duties I am guessing. You might want to get some sort of 'quick-release' setup for your computer's DVD case. ;D

Lol...it is all quick release.. ;D It only takes a minute to install or take out a drive.

I am done with the Lite On's after this for harvesting. From now on it will be the Pioneer 112D.
