Hello Folks!

This is Mohagoni from Germany.

Here is my first own build: Trinity laser out of a Maglite 2D. Due to the three switches it looks a bit like a morning star.

658nm 300mW open can - "driver" with two resistors and a zener diode
532nm 200mW module
445nm 1W with a ben boost (859mA)

The 445nm should have been about 2W with 1.7A but I broke one of the two ben-boost drivers when inserting the green module. A new one is already ordered. I might update this post if I got it in.

For me a laser pointer must have at least two security measures build in:
A key lock and a key button

The key lock is needed to avoid damage to curious ones (or one must take out the battery every time the laser is put aside)

The key button is necessary so that the device will turn off if it drops from the hand.

I my opinion, anything else is not responsible.
Of course some could argue that this is quite hypocritical - to build such a device might be considered irresponsible already :tsk:

So I replaced the original switch with a key switch. Which I mounted from the inside. It is pressed towards the opening wiht a (strong) spring.

I also put in a green LED as an indicator if the laser is armed.

Each diode got its own switch and all in line with the key switch. So you set the three switches and then turn the choosen combination on with the key switch.

The heatsink has the length of an aixis module. I had some PM with Jayrob about it, but then I found a guy with a lathe, who did it for free (it is a friend of a friend - I do not know the name myself (yet - will show him the device on next occasion) - if he permits I will publish the name here later).

Biggest problem was to get the green module chassis isolated. I put some tape around the module and a copper-sheet around this. But twice I got a short when I screwed in the set-screw. Now there are two layers of tape (the bore got already a bit narrow for this).

Let me know what you think, if there is interest, I will post more details of this build.

Regards,
Mohagoni
