I have done some reading and need some help.
5W LED Flashlight Superbright Powerful Torch Lamp Light on eBay.ca (item 180489804211 end time 01-Sep-10 06:55:45 EDT)
I want to use thing host and i would like to use a nice small led driver instead of a lm317.
i have been looking at quite a few drivers but i want a few with some good different current settings.
I am looking for 1 to drive around 1a for my 445nm laser
DealExtreme: $1.99 18V 5W Cree Circuit Board for Flashlights (16.8mm*5.5mm)
This one looks good from what i have read.
Then i want one around 350ma for my reds
DealExtreme: $16.68 Quality AMC7135 350mA Regulated Circuit Board for DIY Flashlights 20-Pack
My only issue with this one is that i dont know what battery's i will have to use in my host, because its not a boost driver.
And last i want a 200ma for my blue rays.
I could not find one with a low power.
So if any one could please give me advice as to what batterys i should use and point me to some good cheap drivers for them.
I have build a few pointers but this will be my second nice host build.
I also have a person comming up to watch me build one and i want to make sure i have every thing worked out.
So sorry is this information is spread around i found some of it but i still had some questions.

YEESS 3 dollar host ftw =]

but sorry i have no idea abbout 445nm

1. These are boost drivers for LEDs but not for lasers.
LDs are sensitive and we need to check driver with oscilloscope to see how stable it is.
We were discussing about using LED drivers for powering up 445nm diodes, and even someone mentioned that will try to use this cheap boost driver.
Maybe we can make it enough stable if we put enough big capacitor at output.
And I can't tell you anything unless someone tries that.

2. To power up one red diode with AMC7135 you need one Li-Ion battery.
That combination should give you 330-350mA.
AMC7135 will not heat too much but I always put small magnet (from sled) on chip to cool it down.

3. To power up BR up to 200mA I'd use this driver.

You can't beat that price for LD boost driver.
And if you want to make your own boost driver for cheap then you can use LM3410x based driver...

4. You will also need to "convert" the three AAA battery holder.

Okay well i want to use that host and i think i should be able to fit an lm317 in there i can build very small, but what battery will i need to power a lm317 with a 445nm laser at 1a?
Sorry for all the questions i have always used 9volts my first time not using them.

If you want to use the plastic battery holder that comes with this host, use three (3) 10440 (protected) in parallel. That will give you <1.5mAh capacity. :D

As reference, a 18650 carries around 2400-3000mAh.

it will be able to fit an lm317 driver for sure

and you should use 3 x 10440 batteries

or you could use 2 and a spacer ( i think )

i plan on building a 445nm too, so lemme know how it goes and what you plan on doing too =]

as for heat sinking what do you plan on using?

Don't all LED flash lights come with some kind of driver?
Is the problem adjusting the current to appropriate level, or is there too big difference in the diode voltages?

the led flashlight driver is generally just a resistor, my led flashlight has no resistor or w.e and just directly connects to the battery

and if you don't have capacitors, diode, resistor and a lm317 to regulate the current, you're gonna blow your diode out

Well, ok.
The showerhead host I got is direct drive, I just imagined that lights with higher performance LED's would have some kind of driver.
Particularly the ones with just one AA or AAA.

i do not know much about electronics... but i'll say how my dorcy lec came... it came with a boost driver and a separate resistor. can somebody please explain that.

hmm if i can find a work shop i will definitely make a heatsink for sure

i wish i could just find an aluminum rod perfect size for my host and just drill a hole through it

and will the amc7135 be good for the 445nm diode? i was hoping to just build a ddl driver

hey nosebleed, look up k and H metals. i think they are a national chain, they sell aluminum stock of all sizes
