I don't understand what i've done wrong. I have three identical mirrors attached to three identical motors with the same three 25ohm pots and each on a separate circuit with their own 3.7v lithium. I have individual control of each motor but i can't get ANY cool patterns. I don't understand, the only things i get are random designs. I can't get any of the ones like i've seen in videos. Whats wrong with it?

Need a drawing of how they are hooked up as well as a clear photo
of your build showing the motors..

heres a photo. Do all the mirrors have to be offset the same amount?

The mirrors should have slightly different offsets.

Kay thats what i thought. Its really frustrating, i can't even get close to the effects of a two axis spirograph. Am i the only person this has happened to?

try using two mirrors, that makes the best pattern, I have used three motors before and could not get anything good.

I think i've got an idea. With the dc motors mounted on dice and then on to plastic, im getting a LOT of vibrations and then also the dc motors don't have any regulation so the pots are not precise at all. Now i see why everyone uses pc fans. I think im gonna try pc fans and see what happens.

Definitely try what rog8811 suggested. My 3 DC motor spiro with fet based speed controls didn't give any good patterns at all, looked like a random mess most of the time. When I reversed the rotation of one of the motors, it was like magic. Suddenly I got good patterns.

that's a nice setup you got there, i prefer the 3 axis spiros but i do like the simplicity of the 2 axis sprios, it's up to you. :p

Okay, got it situated. Things that anybody attempting this project ought to know: Number one - vibrations are your worst enemy, if you spin up one mirror and get a funny circle then you've got a problem. Number two - all of the mirrors need to be spinning in the same direction. I highly recommend using pc fans for this project as they will keep you from screwing up the direction the mirrors spin because a pc fan only spins one way motors however spin both. They also are MUCH quieter than motors and produce very little vibration. I picked up 3 of these from fry's electronics for 7 bucks each. Anyway hope my misery was helpful to someone else  ;)

Glad there's someone else working on one of these at the moment.

What I used to secure my motors were some mini motor mount blocks I sculpted out of sculpy. Having a really firm achor seems to have helped quite a bit with the whole vibration issue. I also shortened the shaft and used acrylic mirrors to cut down on vibration distortion (the lighter acrylic produces a lot less vibration).

The one thing I'm having a problem with is the wiring. I want to have pots on each motor, but I'm wily of the issues associated with wiring multiple paralel pots.

Suggestions, anyone?
