I don't think most laser systems are omni... You could probably get some sort of lens that took a large area of light and focused it into a smaller area where you could put a photocell.

What distances.... Indoor/Outdoor...

Not enough info...

I've always thought it'd be pretty cool to have a stereo system set up that uses lasers instead of wires to the speakers. I have no idea how to even start something like that. I never actually looked into it though heh. Maybe one day for a future project.

I'm sure there is. with filters, amp, whatever. the ones i've seen are basically a small transformer, a photo diode a driver and a laser.

Np. I was originally being cheeky, but I'm surprised you haven't heard of em. My computer is as old as 4 years now and on the back of my mobo there's a socket for optical fibre audio. If you have a home theatre system, it should have one too. Looks like an almost-square, gray flap that opens toward the inside of the device and has red light coming out of it. That's it

There are ways around it for sure. I have no experience of lasers but im a radio ham and a qualified sound technician so im planning a project to get higher quality audio down a laser. I'd like to keep it analogue.

If you do a quick google there are very simple circuits for sending audio down a laser and receiving with a photocell, the problem is that with any daylight you get lots of noise. My plan is to use an accurate oscillator on the transmitter for the carrier and a sharp filter at the receiver so that you only 'take out' the signal from the laser and nothing else. It should'nt be too difficult to do.

The simplest thing is to put the photocell at the back of a dark box with a small hole in the front for the beam!
