Laser host ideas and questions regarding drivers

Here are the two hosts. One is a bike light I am no longer using and the other is a Batman flashlight I got a long time ago. I'm leaning toward the Batman light as it has quite a bit of room in it.

I am planning on purchasing the SenKat pre installed LD w/ Aizis module. Now for the question, will the DIY kit work to fit in here or should I go a different route? I'm not sure if the 2"x2" PCB kit will fit in here (inner dimensions are 1.25"x3.5"). Not sure if I should use 2 CR123's or a 9 volt battery. I'm have no electronics knowledge, but I can solder well. Can you guys help me out? :)

Cheers,
Ray

Re: Laser host ideas and questions regarding drive

i would use 2 CR123's, you will get a MUCH longer battery life. if you are good at point to point soldering, you can make that driver circuit yourself, and it will be much smaller! as to the flashlight choice, whatever works best!

Re: Laser host ideas and questions regarding drive

The CR123's start to sag and the LM317 starts to drop out almost immediately..I do not recommend them for use with the LM317. Using a pair of RCR123's would be the way to go. Or 6 AAA or AA nimh, lithium or alkaline batteries.
