Greetings folks. I'm past due on a full review of this Jayrob modified laser 'flipped backwards' for the reviews section, but until I complete this project & follow through I thought to share a video how this almost finished DTJRFX Laser Gun performs in low power mode. No matter how slowly or quickly the trigger is pulled, each shot fired is a short pulse that geniunely resembles a laser blast. This is not firing short incriments of a beam from quick trigger action, just one short perfect laser pulse everytime :)

*updated*

I went to the toy store today & got myself one of these....

Within a half an hour and because it was that easy, I came up with this.....

The components are temporarily in place for now until I solder them and drill the tailcap out for mounting the speaker and passing 2 tiny wires, but this was the last mod I wanted to finish before calling this laser gun complete!!

Nice work on the gun stock....
Just one question.... You seem to be shooting those beams
at random surfaces....

You Know its coming..... Drum Roll please..........................

Why are you not wearing Laser Safety goggles/glasses...
(Unless you meant <5mW when you said low power mode)

Thansk Jer. You got it also, low power mode. Although those pulses are ~100mW rather than <5mW. They're about 1/2 as bright as one of my 200mW 445s, but that's just a guess because I can't meter a steady beam from the gun with it set like this.

Because this gun fires a microsecond pulse of ~100mW everytime, goggles don't seem necessary with the lack of reflections I'm enjoying rather than squinting from. You can tell in the video because there's no light pollution or room brightness from each shot, just a micropulse. I follow and suppurt the use of safety goggles with all my laser beamage and when using lasers all the time, especially when burning. This specific mode in this enviornment however is an exception, to me anyways.

When I do a full review I will follow laser goggle safety practices with this gun as I have before ;)

Goggles aside, nice build and cool effect. How did you modulate the output, is it a complete home built driver or are you using a circuit to pulse input power to a standard driver?

I was going to keep this part a secret to myself, because it's so simple I'm almost embarrassed to call it a mod - and because it also came to fruition from a mistake rather than my thinking it out... Sure it can be done with adding a circuit or modding the driver, but I don't know how to do that yet & this was much easier ;)

I'm simply using 1 undercharged and 1 fully charged battery instead of 2 full batteries. The undercharge is only pushing 3V (measures slightly vary) instead of 4.2V (full charge) - starving the driver (FlexmodP3, 1.9A) from a full charge from both batteries & consequently barely firing an extremely weak attempt of a beam (microsecond pulse) at full capacity everytime.

It's a perfect mistake from lowering the input voltage this way. I wouldn't have thought of creating this feature before, but now it drastically has improved the guns usability.

If this laser gun only fired at it's full 2W 'high power mode' capacity per shot, I'd barely use it because of how bright and dangerous it would be. It's much more usable this way

Why weren't you yelling "pew pew pew?!"

That aside, it's a cool build. ;)

Very cool effect !
I was about to say I bet he's using one fully charged battery and one under charged battery but then you said it first :na: JK

any way you should make a rifle model next one that looks like a AK or M-16 but that puts out a 500mW blast each time and buy safety glasses for everyone in your hood :D

Nice laser gun thanks for sharing

Thanks! Hehe I am pew pewing in my head every shot, but adding an internal soundboard to the trigger is the only unfinished step :D Again I'll be sure to post a full review of this soon covering all the details and the guns capabilities specifically. I'm reading back my own posts now here & seeing I'm not being clear with what I'm demonstrating in the video. I apologize for that, I thought to save it for the review & avoid double posting and/or doing a review in the mods section...

I know this is completely off topic but.... I'd seriously pay money for that master shake.

Build one that is focused to infinity, at 1.5W! It will be able to burn black plastic in a microsecond, baby!
