ok so this is off the top of my head head , and i dont know if they run on different frequencies ect..
but what i am asking is could you wire the circuits from a tv be gone to a ir laser and then if you point the laser at the tv receiver from a decently far distance , couldnt you hypotheticaly have a super sniper tv be gone? ( like take out the ir lights for the tv be gone and replace with a ir laser with extra juice to power the laser)

this may be a dumb idea but please tell me any flaws or problems i would run into - thanks

I think it's quite feasible really. You need a laser that will accept modulation up to around 40 kHz since that is the carrier used for TV remotes. In terms of wavelegth, what's used in remote controles varies a bit - usually leds around 980nm.

Take a look at this datasheet for a typical receiver found in a tv:
http://www.vishay.com/docs/82013/tsop12xx.pdf

Sensitivity to 808 nm would be around 20% of the optimum, but these things are very sensitive - 40 mW/m2 required at the optimum wavelenght. If you were to have a line of sight to the receiver, you could switch the channel a mile away using a simple pump diode found in the average elcheapo green.

Aixiz used to have complete modules for 980 nm, but i'm not sure the included driver is up for modulation at this rate. Still, it wouldn't be that hard to design a driver that takes the signals from a remote and pulses a LD accordingly.

Those laser modules arent that expensive i think... guess i'll have to find someone to annoy now ;p
