Hi

Ive been looking on this forum for a long time a decides to join in with the laser world , my names ben i have only got 2 lasers a green and a red . I'm OK a soldering and have made 2 LMxxx regulators for some things and now Ive  started to make a tec cooled IR laser @ 808nm probably 2 or 3 watts . The regulator will probably be a 4.5 amps ,  adjustable . With lithium ion batteries for power the tecs are 10 watt 20mm x 20mm and run at 5 volts .

Any help or ideas would be great   :)

I'd ditch the Li Ion batteries for a mains powered source..

OK , i was going to use mains power but just wondered what other people would think of Li ion batteries , thanks for the advise.

I have used a 1A 12V PSU off an old modem, that powered my loc labby @ 420mA just fine.

Hi

I saw that labby you made nice build ,  im trying to aim for something simalar i found a old 5 volts 6 amp pus from something and im going to use that for the tecs and diode driver i got the base heatsink today and have started the case to .

The bootom pic is of the laser setup i will put it in a case soon

What driver are you using, For a LM317 i would recommend 12V, if its a lavadrive then it should work, the one you found.

I'm not sue but that might be to much amperage, I'm not sure if that will hurt it or not but your not going to use all of it, you would be set with 1A, if you can find one.

Hi

I'm using a regulated current and voltage mains PSU to run the diode the diode was rated at 2 watts the diode draws 1.5 amp @ 2.6 -2.7 volts that's what i was told to run it at but if that's to high then i will lower the current

In the YouTube link the last PUS the black colored one with the analogue display is what is running the diodes

thanks for the advise

Sorry if this has already been discussed but,

I have a Green 532nm laser pointer that I have modified to run from a toggle switch so it can reamian on without me holding the button down however the battery life is really not very good, maybe 20mins of reasonable brightness. Is it safe for me to run it from the mains? It runs off 2xAAA batteries so naturally I would say it requires 3v DC but will it burn out?

Thank you in advance

It's highly likely that instead of dead batteries you are seeing power loss resulting from the pointer heating up. DPSS lasers don't like temperature changes, and their power will fluctuate as they become warm or cool. Running a green laser pointer for extended periods of time will cause it to heat up, resulting in power loss.

OK so, what do you recommend? Im using a Green laser with the star burst cap Im sure you know which one Im talking about.

Can I perhaps add a small fan to the case or will that not really do anything?

Ideally I was looking for a sort of laser intrusion grid for a hallway, but this star burst seemed a cheaper option with a similar effect though still not quite what I was wanting.

If anyone would be willing to discuss this further with me ie with the knowledge to build such a laser grid please feel to email me at: creepyhollowghg@gmail.com

I am planning to build a similar laser to the one you are describing. Can i ask what package type the diode is and what housing (not host) you are planning to use? i am having trouble finding a solution to my to-5 9mm 808nm 1 watt ld not having a fac lens. this means that i cant just mod an aixiz hosuing and stick it in there because i need a fac!
thanks :)
