Yes it is a nice solution as long as the flashlight doesn't use the case for the ground. The ground wire that goes from the 7135 is not the same as battery ground. So the laser diode/module would have to be isolated from the case. My review of it is here:

guys do think DDL LD driver totally needs a 100ohm trimpot? bacause as of now i have 3 10ohm resistor that is 3.3ohm plus 100 ohm trimpot a total of 103.3 ohm, do think i can get higher output using this set up? how about the maximum current for this? please tell me what's the safer mA for this driver and high output enough to light matches, pop balloon in seconds...

What do you mean by 'safe' ?

If you mean 'Will the battery explode or catch on fire?' the answer is 'most likely no.'

If you mean 'Can I use a few LR44s to power my LM317 constant current source?' the answer is 'yes, but only for a few seconds before the driver starts dropping out.'

If you mean 'Can I hook four LR44s directly to the laser diode?' the answer is 'absolutely not.'

i think i will use 2pcs rechargeable CR2 to make 6v, like i said on my last thread i cant use 2pcs CR123 beacuase i only have 55mm x 25mm dia. of battery space, and only 2 CR2's can fit that or something like single battery that is 6volts can do.

Well if you're going to use CR2s, make sure they're rechargeable 3.6v protected batteries. See if you use two normal 3v CR2s or 3v rechargeables you'd have to constantly buy or recharge them. The LM317 takes 3v, if you power your diode at 250mA that's 2.8v, so in total you need 5.8v to power your laser, and as soon as the voltage from the batteries drops below 5.8v your laser will start getting weaker and weaker. So like I said, if you use 6v only you'll have to change or recharge the batteries constantly. Not to mention if you included a diode in your circuit to protect it from reverse polarity, that's an additional .7v so now you'd need 6.5v to power your laser which means that by the moment you put brand new batteries in, the LM317 would start dropping out immediately. So in conclusion, just use 7.2v to power your laser, if you can't find a power source of that voltage that fits in your host, than you'll have to change to another one.

PS: Make sure the power source you get is at least 500mA, otherwise even if your source measures 7.2v it won't last that long.

There is almost a zero voltage drop across the silicon diode when used in parallel as is done in Daedal's circuit. If the diode is in series with the circuit, then there would be a ~.7 volt drop in the circuit.

Wait, so does this mean DDL was wrong, see I read in one of his posts that when the batteries are connected in the right polarity there is a .7v drop across the circuit.

chido,

Other than that I fully agree with you and is what I have been trying to explain to adgmeijin. But adgmeijin is hell bent on using his flashlight as a host. And since an open can diode is being used, adgmeijin will not be able to enjoy the full potential of an open can diode using that host. The diode can easily be driven with 350ma's, and I would say 400ma's tops for a lasting diode. How long does anyone think protected RCR2's will run the diode before the regulator begins to drop out?

There are no 500ma protected RC2's. The highest I know of are 350ma's.

so gazoo what would you suggest without changing my host, i want it that way, i know that LD open can needs 350ma or 400ma with heat sink on it, so if DDL LD driver wont help i will by pass His circuit instead i will be using 7805 with 4.5 volts AAA Alkaline. i will test it first. then inform you all..that's it for now... :-/
