How plausible is this idea.

I had a really fun idea that I wanted to do, now that I will have a laser with a visible beam.

I know it wont be easy, and I know it wont be perfect, but since I'm strange it would be fun and look cool.

How awesome would it be to have mirrors to reflect a laser grid on your door....I'm talking horizontal/vertical grid. I know it sounds strange, but I'd LOVE to just freak random people who walk by my door out. I'd probably have the most issues aligning the mirrors, but has anyone tried anything like this?

Be careful not to run your laser past its duty cycle! I'm not sure if you're planning to keep it on all the time or just when a person walks by.

No, I know better than to just leave it on. Not only because of that, but I don't want to blind everyone in my dorm if they happen to walk through it like retards.

I think it's an awesome idea. It would be great if you could do it with a green module though because the beam would be much more visible.

Yeah, I was considering buying a cheap Green laser from DX as long as its visible and doesn't output IR since I have green laser protection glasses already.

You might consider a difraction grateing to make your grid.
Some output lines of dots and others a universe of stars.
One of the lenses in the Blu GB sled outputs a widl line of dots.

All you would need would be some mirrors (probably FS mirrors) and then glue them on so they just reflect right and have the laser in a mount at the bottom or something. i think this would look amazing though. with a tiny bit of fog this would look really deathly! but at night even with a good True 5mW from DX you could see the grid. i'm sure there would be a nice green glow form it during the day

or you can use a bunch of LDs :p yeah the only problem with this is, if i understand correctly what you intend on doing, once they step through all the other lines will terminate :( ive seen things where people will project images etc onto air like they do with water. anyone ever try playing with lasers around those air ionizers? dont know if that would do anything or not.. could always make a door from lexan or something and project it to that?

Using little mirrors on the doorposts, i guess its possible to make a really cool zig-zag pattern covering the hole opening. It might be difficult to set up though, if you misalign one of the mirrors early in the chain, it'll definitely miss the next at some point.

The again, you could just glue 2 mirror strips covering the entire doorframe. As long as you get them paralel it should work just as good.

^ And if they're closer at the bottom than at the top the zig-zag beams will get gloser and closer together as they go down the doorway.

Of course, you'd have to add a photodiode that triggers a klaxon when the beam is broken... :D
