The more I think about this, the more I like it.

I'm beginning to suspect the majority who try this will insta-flash their diodes, and they'll just give up and move onto other things. If there were suddenly millions of high-powered portable laser devices out there, we could see a whole bunch of new laws and whatnot. The people who come here might at least learn something.

I was going to post some comments on YouTube about how the batteries were probably used, and not at full charge, to use an LED flashlight with a driver if you were too lazy to make your own etc.

Then I just said to myself... "NAAAAAAAAHHH!" ;)

It's more fun like this... you can only warn people, only they have to choose to follow. The amount of info we have all added here to advise people regarding driving the LD's is more than sufficient to teach a 5-year-old about lasers and how to drive them. It's only a matter of interest and commitment. Those who are interested will stick around and learn and share information. Those who just want a quicky laser will do this, pop the LD, then move on to the next youtube fab. ;D

I suspect most have been lucky because they have used rechargable batteries so running 2.4v instead of the full 3v.

If you use a AAA minimag, you will most likely survive the test - the AA mini-mags due to the current will pop them fast ! There are a lot of torches out there that will work straight away without any modifications needed. Just as always, take your time, and it will work out well !
