How to boost this 1mW pointer?

Hi,
is it possible to boost this laserpointer by removing the resistor or substitute it by a variable one or maybe by driving more voltage?
Its like 6-7 years old i think and cost around 50Eur back in the days in a local store. The laser unit is filled with epoxy and the lens is screwable (plastic).

Here we go again... for the gazillionth time...:horse:

Have you even read anything on this Forum...:undecided:

Have you even found the [Search] button...:undecided:

It would be to your own interest to do a little reading before asking
the same questions that have already been asked and answered hundreds
of times before....

That laser doesn't even have a driver...:undecided:

If you'd have said that the diode is very likely working at the max already and pot modding may not lead to satisfying results it would have been a useful post. :tired:
I don't want any burning lasers, just a little more light. Nothing more. And that should be possible with a pot mod, shouldn't it?

Im pretty sure that you can't have gold as the 3rd color band cause the third color band is the multiplier and the 4 is the tolerance which is either gold or silver. i could very well be wrong tho.

Edit-- Sorry, never mind gold is a divider so i think you are right

I bypassed the resistor. The gain is barely visible with stock 3v.

What about CD-R diodes? Are these of any use like DVD-R diodes? The search function doesn't like short terms or no one ever asked for it. :)

no they are no good... If I were you I would start off with a PHR-803T sled with a blu-ray diode in it. It only costs $12 and you can drive it pretty high. It also comes with a red/ir diode that you can practice soldering with first to get the hang of it. You will be very happy with the blu-ray laser. There are schematics on this forum that teach you how to make your own driver. We call it a DDL driver here. Read all the stickies and welcome to LPF!

The only way you're going to increase the output of that is by buying a different laser. It's like trying to "pot mod" a 60W bulb to output 100W. It doesn't work, and you might as well start with something workable if you're going to invest time into it. You could, however, use that case as a starting point for something else, since it has a nice battery compartment and button.

Hehe.. the video could now be abbrivated to trashing and ordering the dilda indeed...

Now that's something that WOULD work - just get a variac and dial up the voltage until its at 100 watts. It'll be very efficient at that point too, but dount count on more than a few minutes of runtime.
