Hot glue/Cardboard Spirograph!

Hey everyone! I just finished making a basic spirograph! Im not completely finished yet. I may add another motor and i still have some resisters/switches/batteries.

This is just what i managed to complete today. Perhaps ill post more photos and some videos in the future :san:

I pulled of of that stuff from junk laying around. I just went out today to get a glue gun (which you can see i love!). I bought a mirror from Rite-Aid (3$) and stripped it to the glass.I smashed some decent sized chunks of glass and then proceeded to cut the glass with wire cutters (worked well actually). I then added the mirrors to the motor/fan. Then I aligned the mirrors which took a couple of tries. When i got everything the way i wanted i added leads to the battery, motor, and fan. I then glued everything the way i wanted and hooked it all up then added a switch.

Thats all it took.

Hey... whatever works....

I would suggest to get a battery pack with more capacity.
That 9volt battery won't last too long with even only the 2
motors...

Yeah I know... I may take apart my old laptop pack and take the 7 18650's out since im not using it anyhow and its pretty much new. Plus my laptop is broke.

I was going to use styrofoam cups as a mount but the cardboard was easier to work with. :beer:

Nice build and the good thing is its cheap Can you take a picture of it working?

Lol you got it backwards

The first one a friend of mine and I worked on in the mid 80's while we were in high school used two galvos and a ~5mw HeNe. The whole thing was housed in an empty Milkyway candy bar case and all the pieces were hot melt glued in. If you guessed that we called it the Milkyway, you would be correct. Good times, Pink Floyd or a couple of function generators as input and watch the show.

oh i see. how much did it cost total to build the spirograph?

If you buy everything to build it. You could make one with <20$ easily. You can get some motors from those cheapo dollar store fans. You can get wire real cheap. Assuming you already have hot glue and batteries then your pretty much all set. The only thing I actually bought was the mirror. Look around and you'd be surprised on what you can find in old electronics! Let me know if you actually build one

Ok. I only have 2 lasers (beacuse i just started this hobby) and both are broken. I dont have any lasers as of now. :banghead: . So i gotta wait till i get another laser.
