Hey Mitch, I'm going to do this too! Which model drive are you buying? And what is the best price you have found? I found this price:
http://www.nowdirect.com/exec/partIn...rt=LGOGGW-H20L - Free shipping. Make sure you don't get a GGC-H20L. Big difference...

hi jayrob do you have a guide about the extraction of th LG 4x speed BR burner? about the sled how do i know if the LD was a BR? can you please give me the specific right current to reach the appropriate maximum output and on its quality diode life. im actually using DDL driver like yours then 3pcs of RCR123A 3.6v, cuz my LG 4x BD burner drive is on the way, thanks.

First off, lets make sure we are talking about the same drive! There are many 4 X drives. LG makes different ones. The model number is: LG Electronics GGW-H20L. NOT GGC.
Now, I have not harvested this drive...YET. I am going to get one and harvest it. Hemlock Mike has a picture, with some explanation of his harvest on this drive here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/fo...1203129030/0#0
We should be able to determine which diode is the blu-ray, once we open the drive, and expose the sled. Mike does have some notes on this.
As far as current, if it is the same diode, drlava showed an excellent graph here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/fo...03129030/30#42
From your posts, I'm sure that you have already seen these. I can tell you what I plan on doing with my diode. I plan on starting off at 100mA's. Then, checking the power at that current. If it is the same as drlava's graph, then I will turn it up some. I want to try to get at least 90mW's in my handheld MXDL host that I have shown here in this thread...
Jay

P.S. Hemlock Mike has confirmed that with this sled, (model number is shown) the blu-ray diode is the one shown here at the left.

Here's a beam comparison between my two blu-rays. Smoke machine, so you can see the beams...even with sunlight beaming through the garage door windows! One is 16.7mW's (PS3), and the other is my 2 X writer build. (63mW's) I have my 6 X drive on the way. I want to join the ranks of the 6 X club...

jayrob, that's one small driver. i'd love to make one that small for my 360 hd dvd bluray diode even though it's weak. i cant get over that size, it would be perfect for my flashlight.
any chance there's some schematics for that to adjust for a weaker diode?

Sure, the schematic is from Daedal. Here it is in my 'driver tips' doc:
http://www.sonic.net/~jayrob/MXDLDriverTips.doc
The only thing different than the schematic (for this blu-ray driver), is the use of a 50 ohm pot, instead of the 100 ohm pot. Also, no other resistor. Using the 50 ohm pot at the LM317, will allow you to turn the current all the way down to 25mA's. It is a 1/4 watt pot. So, 200mA's is the max current that you would want to use it for in an LM317 based driver. Here's the pot:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=490-2981-ND
It's a 12 turn pot, so at the low current levels, the adjustment is nice and fine...

For a blu-ray, 6V will not work with a DDL style driver. BlueFusion sells drivers that would work for a blu-ray and a 6V supply. Also, drlava has developed a driver that will do the job for you...
