ok, just a quick question. i'm tying to figure out a good amount of resistance for a circuit for a blu ray. i am planning on using three 10 ohm resistors in series connected in parallel to a 1k pot. if i'm correct, that's about a max of 30 ohms. does that sound doable?

<--10-- --10-- --10--> = about 30 ohm total?
<---------1k pot------>

Use a regulator.
By a regulator do you mean a 317 because i was planning on using that. I am just talking about keeping the current down to about 40ma. i dont have access to a 100 ohm pot and am wondering how i can use a 1k pot instead.
btw, i accidentally deleted my original post.

Hi again. Since my laser is complete I wanted to show you all some pictures of it. The dot has the line through it when focused. I guess everyone has that problem. The beam unfocused looks a bit odd. Most of the light is concentrated to one side. The diode is nice and flush with the housing.I can pop balloons fairly quickly. I do not need black sharpie to pop green ones. I can cut electrical tape but have real issues igniting matches.

Overall I am pleased with how it turned out.
In case anyone is interested the flashlight is a Garrity.

Here are the pics.

guys, just build DDL's circuit.
DNMEBOY: the 317 is 2 dollars!!! if you have the rest of the circuit, then poping in a 317 is VERY EASY!! just do it man!!

about, 40mA for bluray, I think you swap the 10 ohm resistors with a 33 ohm resistor, and forget about the pot. that is not needed. with that, 1.25/33 = 37mA. that would do I believe.

i am building ddls circuit, i'm just trying to figure out how to get the right resistance. another question, how do you control the voltage with the lm317? i am fairly new to electronics. i really appreciate your help.

the LM will do that job for you

I already have the 317, it just doesn't fit in my flashlight and if you had read my previous posts you would have known that I did build the circuit and I can not get it to out put enough voltage to power the diode or even an led. And yes I had an input of at least 6 volts, 7.4 to be exact. I don t have a multimeter so I cant tell what out put I was getting. I already spent all the money I had on this project so no I cant afford to buy a circuit from you or anyone else here.

I had a few questions I had asked and never got a very good answer on. I asked if things would work without the 317 because it wont fit in my flashlight and instead I was told to build the full circuit.

You do realize when you talk like this it seems as if you are yelling!!!!!! right?

So to me the few days I have been here I am getting yelled at by.
You yelled at me to start a new thread, and in doing that I pissed someone else off.

The last thing I wanted to do here was bother people. I posted some pics of my finished laser and your still telling me to just build the circuit.

dude, im not yelling at you, im telling you what is good for your laser, and you. That first post had a joking sense to it, if you read carefully.

You can saw make the LM VERY SMALL:

hold LM still somehow (preferable Vise)
Grind down tab with sandpaper, metal file, or whatever

gring won a bit of the black part.

Use minimal PCB board, try and solder everything either directly to the diode, or to the LM.

And there you have it, If you did it right, you should be able to fit it into an aixiz module.

also, you CAN buy a bluefusion curcuit, that will fit inside the aixiz module and WILL drive your laser.

nice laser, I can see you put a lot of effort into it! good job!

now, time to drive that diode.. LOL

Ok, thank you, but I was also looking for a little input on the pictures that I had posted.

And I did not think to grind down the LM. I realize that most of the metal is the heatsink and when I first built the driver circuit the LM became very hot.

And at this point I am getting very nervous about continuing to mess with the diode but I will at some point put the LM back in along with the silicon diode. But right now it works.

Most of this I actually did without pcb board. And its still a big setup to try and fit in my flashlight. but it does fit.

Anyway it just occured to me that if i use the LM317 I have to rebuild the entire laser as my flashlight has only an out put of 3.6 volts using 3- 1.2v NIMH and 4.5 volts if I use alkaline. So I wont be able to use my flashlight.

That means more money :)

Perhaps I will look into the bluefusion chip you were talking about and see the specs on it.

that driver and the Bluefusion driver all need 6V input. there is a way to fix your laser. instead of AA batts, use 14500 batteries.

Yeah i can see if 2 of those would fit inside it.

I searched bluefusion here but could only find my post here and some guy named bluefusion.

Can you point me in the direction to them?

Also do you need a whole new battery charger to charge li-ion batteries?

I found a universal charger that charges Nicad Nimh and Li-ion but Im not sure......
Also I still have the 7.4 volt Lipo pack I can use that will fit. That actually would allow me a ton more room
Its pretty small.

Maybe I will finish the driver tonight.

if the LI-ion is rechargable, and the charger charges it, then youre okay.

Bluefusion IS a guy on this forum, he makes drivers and sells them. Look for tiny driver (or something along the lines of that name) in the group buys section, hes one of the first threads

OK thanks, but with your ideas I may not need it. I will free up a ton of space inside the flashlight by removing the batteries and putting in the 7.4 volt lipo. I will now have room to put the whole ddl circuit in there. Now I have to find a way to wire it so I can still use the on off button on the flashlight.

Thanks. it should be done tonight.

Ok, well you already saw the laser. And I have already finished the circuit. The laser doesnt look any different. It is just as bright. I guess i did everything right this time around. What I am curious to know is if it will have more burning power now that I have a proper driver driving it. Im just taking a break for a minute before I seal the circuit up and wire it back into the flashlight. i also need to let the lipo pack charge.

Ive got it set up pretty nice. To charge the pack I will just need to unscrew the end of the flashlight and unplug the pack.
