yeah that was done by kipkay. he has become quite popular from that and made diy lasers popular

How long would the diode last with a 150ohm resistor and a 9 volt battery??? :-/

I've just calculated this phaser with 9volt and 150ohm resistance and it pans out at 60ma, am I right in assuming that this is the threshold of the PS3 blu-ray diode??

Somewhere around 62mA the diode will be damaged, but all diodes are diffrent, but you're still running it at 9V instead of 4.5V or 5V.

Well I liked the simplicity of this guys set up with a simple resister between the + terminal and the diode. This surely could have advantages when making a pointer whilst trying to keep everything compact and simple. I will add that I'm no electronics geek in anyway and only understand a few basics but I'm willing to learn ;)

Yeah i'm running mine at 40ma because I only have one and i'm NOT going to blow it.
I used one 150ohm and 2x 47ohm in parallel to get the 40ma.

Current = (battery voltage - diode voltage) / resistance
= (9V - 5V) / 150 Ohm
= 27 mA

My particular BLD has forward voltage of approx 4.5V when driven at 45mA.

I have gone to 60mA but have since backed down to 45mA - it still stings the skin and I popped a green balloon with it.

WOW that's the sort of blu-ray I want bigtime
