I'm working on designing a focus adapter for a maglite build I am working on,
It will be used to focus the laser with the maglite head.

Anyone who is capible of making this please send me a price.

See any issues with my design?

How thick does a focus adapter need to be?
Is the 2mm extention enough? How long does it need to be? Or is it even needed?

Damn man.... 52.7mm round bar is expensive...

I would like to help you out but I only carry up to 36mm dia round bar. Contact Flaminpyro or Jayrob.

As for the extension, I think that should be fine as long as the person who makes it drills a flat hole. The standard lens collar is 6mm thick if I recall correctly. Maybe increase the total thickness to 6mm just in case.

Also, having a step like that will not look to good as you unfocus the adapter. Maybe put a step into it, so when you focus it all the way in it will sit flush with the inside lip of the maglite.

Good luck! Make sure you post some pics when its done :D

How would this work?
3" dia aluminum round solid bar stock - by the inch | eBay
Doesn't seem too bad since he sells it by the inch

The step should never be visible because it will always be inside the maglite head.

Thanks, I will be sure to post lots of pics of this build when I finish it,
It is going to be epic

Ive Made Focus adapters that big before.:) Its not that hard to do so finding someone to make you one should not be hard.:) Though its a Little more Expensive if someone does not have the round stock available if they would have to buy the stock.

Having a Nice Big Focus adapter would be very Nice on a Mag Build.:cool:

I think your best guy to do this is Jay Himself as he knows this Host Inside and Out and can Nail the Focus adapter Perfect.

Shot him a PM:

Since he Has the Stock already for making the heatsinks i take it, it should be no problem for him to make it for you.

You really don't need to match the diameter of the head for a functional focus adapter...

In fact, IMO, it will not look good if you try to match the diameter. Because the Mag bezel is rounded at the edges.

I think it will look good with a 1" diameter knurled EzFocus adapter.

I made a 3/4" one for the Frankenstein builds: (polished)

A Mag is a little larger in diameter, and a 1" EzFocus would be about right...

I'm not looking to get a regular focus adapter,

I am looking to basicly attach a lens to the stock maglite head,
so when you turn the head the lens with move up/down with the head and focus the laser.

Ahh... I got you...

It's a similar thing that I did with this build:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-p19-focusing-head-18650-kit-very-nice-host-57115.html

It can easily be done with a Mag. You just need to mount the laser and driver into the main host above the switch. The heatsink would still be good size...

Then the head can be only for the focus adapter, which would hold the lens. (threaded in place)

Then you just need to have the correct distance between lens and diode. Should be pretty easy to do...

Edit: Just one thing...

The lens threads that are left sticking out of the EzFocus adapter (after threading the lens into the adapter), would need to be machined smooth, so that it can move freely in an out of the AixiZ module. Because the threads on the Mag head are obviously different than the AixiZ lens threads...
