I got a 20x dvd burner, and I tried to get the ld out, is this the right one?

And how do I get the heatsink off?

What does the back side look like? And what is the model number of the DVD drive.

Heres the back

Its model

liteon lh-20a1p
Ass you can see, it has 3 pins on the back.

I also have another one, that looks like this.

And that has the same back as the other one.

That looks like an open can diode.  Be careful handling it.
They are among the most powerfil available.
Info relating to these open can diodes is found all over this forum.

Which one? The first or second. I dont see where a laser could come out of the 2nd one.

THere's two diodes in these drives -- an IR and a red. There's info all over this forum about this.
We are getting bogged down by redundent questions being asked over and over again until the repetition of the answers causes a blur of information relating to the same question and a plethora of people reply to these oft asked questions until this forum becomes mush which is just the same thing every day.

In other words -- Please read before you ask because someone asked this a day ago or so.

The diode in the second one is an open can diode....one of the best! The inside is very fragile because it is open. Also it looks exactly like the one I harvested two months ago (it is still going strong), and the last time I attempted to remove one from the heatsink I ruined it because my cutters slipped and went into the open part.

This is what the diode looks like when removed:

Wow.

This is a red right?

The other one is a IR?

YES, the open can is red, the other one is infrared. You can hook a single AA battery up to the open can to test it before you attempt to remove it. It is a big pain to get it out of the heat sink. But it is one hell of a diode..and burner. The polarity of the open can is the same as the GB diodes.

Great.

Ill try that tommorwo.

Thanks alot for the help.

Any ideas of how to fit 4 resistors and a cap into a minimag?

I just cant do it..I soldered everything, and then when I try to..sort of fold it up, to fit it in there, i cant.

Kasper,
It's the same diode, just two veiws for completeness. Open can type.
Notice the two jumper wires that are NO NOs to messes with.

I would not even think of putting it in a minimag. It deserves much better and you do not want to ruin it if you can help it.

That diode can safely run on 250 ma's as long as you don't let it get hot. I have run mine as high as 400ma's with TEC cooling! But with 250ma's you are looking at a little less than 150mw's of power...still very powerful.

What do you suggest for me to do?

I cant get any other diodes for a while.
I would like it to be portable though.
