Default gettin 1 to 5 watts

my lasers are like i think the blue ray is like 140 mw and the red one is 450mw now can i take these diodes up to 1 or 5 watts or do i need a diffent type of diode i think i have 3 mm do i need like a 7 mm diode thanks brian

The first answer is NO. Neither of those diodes would get anywhere near 1w. Typically a c-mount IR will reach over 1w. If you are looking for a green/red/blue laser with a <1w output be prepared to spend some serious $$$ on a lab style unit.

nothing you would get from a DVD RW drive or blueray drive will give you over a watt you would need to go to a company like cni and places like that for reds at high powers 5 watt red would be very expensive the diode would be a multimode too as for the 405nm there is a diode you can get i think people have run them over 300mw you could combine 2 for more power but i cant remember the name. i think it works the bigger the die of the diode the more power. A diode made to run say at 200mw could be pushed slightly to get more power but if you want high power then u need a diode desinged for the high power it would probably be a c-mound for the high power reds 2-5 watts the 405nm (blueray) diode is 5.6mm i think the 300mw+ diode is also a 5.6mm but there are many types of dioes like c-mounts , TO-3 , Diode bar , 9mm , 5.6mm ,HHL and also fiber copuled too also as cust11 said all high powerd reds , green and blues will be lab style the green and blue colour wont be produces directly from the diode the main green wavelengh peope use is 532nm (nanometer) and blue is 473nm blues both are DPSS lasers (diode pumped solid state) both use a 808nm diode to pump a crystal to produce a differnt wavelenght with is then converted in to visible light by a non linier crystal like KTP or LBO or BBO blue will be the most expensive lasers if you look through this forum there is amazing amounts of infomation on laser diodes and DPSS lasers along with whats on the internet . i think what ive said is right but there are people here who can annswer your question alot better then me .

About the smallest you can get 1W CW is a 9mm diode package. I have several of these in various wavelengths of the IR spectrum.

One thing to note though is that just about any 1w diode you'd get your hands on is going to be multimode which means that you'll need some expensive optics to get a normal type laser beam (the diode outputs a line vs a spot)
