Freak diode?

From an NEC 8x dvd-rw:
Using Daedal's circuit, it's running with 6.2ohms of resistance across the 1.25v drop..
=201.6mA  The beam is even visible with the lights on :-?
I wish I had a meter for this :|
Shall I turn it down? I'm scared it will blow as I read here that ~145mA was good, and 176mA blew someone's diode?

Chris. I am running a Sony diode in a Dorcy junior torch at 365ma - and it is defying the curve by putting out over 270mw !!! Freak diodes are almost commonplace anymore :)
