Find Of The Day #3

Although I have seen reference in LPF to this before some may not know about it. There is a monster of a dc motor in cell phones- not sure (yet) if it reversable and the voltage - will find out later- located in the bottom of cell phones is the vibrator motor- has an off-center weight on the spindle that is not easy to get off without ruining it. I plan to add JB Weld a little at a time until it balances-did see them once for sale over the internet w/o the weight but I like free stuff. Some in older phones are bigger but all are quite small. I find the phones as thrift shops for a buck or two- also diffraction gratings in the layers of the phones screen.--good luck----m<(#.#)>m----- hak --additional update- this motor is not reversable - tested using 3vdc- also there was no diffraction gratings inside the screen on this phone but on others I have found them as well as reversable motors. This motor is even smaller than it looks as it is encased in softish rubber.-hak

Cool. I like to take apart old unused LCD's for their polarizing properties. Messing around with them you can get some bizzare effects. Nice find BTW

i thought about experimenting with the off-centered motor some days ago.. for a different project though.. hehe
oh, right, the polarizing foil. ok, now i have to open up that old mobile!
