Well since i have no DIY skills at all   i think i will post my ideas.
First off, a lot of people have been talking about a white laser, well i had a idea, it might stupid but i would like some feed back, i have no idea about a lot of thing but i have taken art classes so i know RGB = white but  if you look at the color wheel certain colors are opposites of each other. This is true of Red-and green. Combineing these Should make white. I will post others as a remember it or even better, if some1 has a pic of a color wheel post it . ;D :D
A way of combining beams would be Fiber Optics, you would need to dice and splice, but you should be able to combine beams
Another idea i had is a driver that can operate multiple diodes at once, this would consist of 3 variable resisters, capacitors, Etc. I will post drawings of ideas as i think of them. Please post and tell me what you think , if you are good at DIY PM me, i have a lot of ideas, i just cant put them to good use because i have no skill.  ;D Connor ;D

Heh, I admire your ambition, but you might want to do a bit more research before you dive into this...

Many people have DIY'd white lasers before, search the forums, often you can find projects in the Laser Shows section that involve combining beams of different colors... People generally use a polarized beam splitter cube or a series of dircho mirrors to accomplish this. Red and green will make a yellow color.. you'll need a blue in there to make white. You'll need to use three independent drivers, consisting of fully stable and adjustable current regulation, not just resistors and capacitors.

;D As i said befor i have no idea what im doing, i was thinking Fiber Optics for a larger flashlight white laser, as you could put the diodes behind each other and the FIOS wire would transfer the laser light forward, so the color wheel does not apply to light? if not post what colors make what and i will make a color wheel for myself ;D I am also doing A LOT of research into makeing the mystical black light, some people say if you reach black light the photons slow down which would slow down all particals too so in a sense it would slow down time around the beam. Sounds like fun eh? :DConnor ;D

FIOS... FIOS... FIOS...

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

The word is "Fiber optic".

FIOS is a specific brand of fiber optic internet service from Verizon.

lol sorry, people around me call the wire FIOS so its a habit, i will call it fiber optics if you want though   Yes i know what Fiber Optics are by the way ;D

Well then, you'd know that they don't have any beam combining properties.A fiber optic isn't something that light flows through like water in a hose. The beam maintains a certain direction because it's guided by reflections. :p

Btw, what color wheel did you see where green+red=white? :-?

And, you could probably drive 3 diodes with one circuit , but you can also have 3 separate drivers, which would provide better regulation probably. You could still use the same batteries so space in a handheld unit wouldn't be such a big deal.

I guess we'll have to change the RGY designation of our scanners then, eh? ;)

sorry im lookign at a paint color wheel and red+green at complete opposite hues = black, so i was thinking this wont be possible, so i inferred it would be white but thx for the info, working on a light color wheel ;)
Plz post what blue + red and Blue +green would make. Ty ;DConnor

Your color wheel is for subtractive colors... ie: you put down a pigment of a certain color and white light reflects off it... the more you mix, the darker it becomes.

Lasers are additive color... ie: you produce light of a certain color, which reflects off a white surface... the more you mix, the lighter it becomes.

You'll notice for instance that your TV uses red, green, and blue pixels.. yet if you were to mix red, green and blue paints, you'd end up with brown. TV's project light, paints reflect light.

[edit]Here's a picture showing the difference:[/edit]
