DX drivers?

I've seen a bunch of these drivers on DX for a while now, and as I understand it they're meant for high powered LEDs that require constant current like our lasers...

Most of these are set for currents above 1A, but I noticed this one is set for 300mA...
It's a boost driver which runs off 1 AA battery, and outputs pretty much an ideal current to run a 16x diode at.. and at <$2ea, it seems like a fantastic deal!

Am I overlooking something crucial here? Wouldn't these work? Has anyone tried them?

Otherwise, it looks like DX is having these drivers custom made for flashlight enthusiasts, probably on CPF... Has anyone approached them about making a run of laser drivers? I'd love to see something like a flexdrive for $2 each!

looking at this customer image
4451-bcf9dd04-0a9f-4552-a10d-595643145bfe.jpg

it looks like its voltage regulated. most led drivers are not very well regulated. (current wise)
you could buy and try if you want :p you will need a oscilloscope to test it.

hmm... it'd be worth a shot anyways...

would you really need a scope though? wouldn't watching the display on an ammeter be good enough? I think my multimeter has a sample rate of at least 10hz.. on fluctuating currents it updates pretty quickly.

anyways, it's interesting that that customer image is different from the product description image...

I wonder if DX photographed the wrong item, or maybe just sent that guy the wrong one...

you could try putting a large cap on the output and using a resistor to set the current.
