Hey guys, I know there is a list through Kenoms link but it seems to be a bit scattered, I was wondering if anyone has personal experience with this drive or one similar
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106078

I read that a bunch of Lite-On DVD burners have good power and open cans (that is better right?) and this one will be just over 30 bucks shipped to my door for a 20x, figured that would be a good diode to build my first DIY'er. I got all the parts, just waiting to pick out the diode and get cracking. I'm gonna regulate it with Daedals driver board, and probably pump 250-300 mah into it and see how it does from there, then I'll work on some extreme cooling and see how much higher I can pump it. Anyway, I'm digressing, so any input about this drive, or if anyone suggests a drive that would be a no-brainer (ive heard great things about the Pioneer 112D, also cheap on newegg) I would love the input. Thanks

If that drive contains the same diode and heatsink as the diode I harvested from a LiteOn.. good luck. I have attempted to harvest 2, the first one was successful and the second one my dikes slipped right into the can.

From my research I would suggest the Pioneer 112D. From what I understand of it, it will be much easier to remove the diode from the heatsink. It is an 18X burner however I believe all open can diodes are the same. I only wish I could find a spec sheet for them.

awesome, thanks for the quick response Gazoo.

I think you're right, I'm better off going with what I know is easy to harvest and will work well.  Ill have plenty of time to waste money experimenting on new stuff when I'm out of college and have a real job  ::)

Until then, Pioneer here i come!!!

Please do me a favor...when you receive it please take a pic of the diode mounted in the heatsink.

The ones that come in the LiteOn's look like this and as you can see the whole diode is enclosed in the heatsink:

I understand the heatsink only surrounds the very base of the diodes in the 112D.
