If i got a crystal, how much power of IR would I need to get about 200mW, or more of green laser?

probably a 1.5w crystal, the rpls have a 2.5w one and they can go to 375 so prob around 1.5w. It is alot more difficult than just getting a crystal, you need about 2 crystals that would be very hard to find and you cant just take them out of some dx laser either. You would need high grade crystals that could handle that much power. And they would be very difficult to lign up milimeters of movement on the crystal would drasticly change the beam outputting and well it would just be extremely hard to set up right and get them all to work.

i beleive its abut 10-30% effecent so inorder to get 200mw you will need between 2w or .6w so basicly a 2w diode would do you fine : ) but the hard part is getting evey thing alined perfectly

THe other problem is that just plopping an IR diode behind a crystal will not work!

THere are actually 2 crystals involved, and a bunch of lenses/filters !

A crystal will simply oversaturate if a higher IR pump diode is placed behind it...If it only were that easy..we could buy 5mW greenies, put in a 1W 808 pump diode, re-do the driver and have a 200mW greenie...
We can dream though!!!

I'm actually interested in a DIY DPSS crystal set - where would such items be procurable? I tend to like complicated, picky precise little technological tidbits like that - makes a nice challenge. I used to be responsible for tuning argon lasers - I was the only guy who could tweak the mirrors in and get perfect beams without ever following procedure - just did it by eye & feel.

Are there any fully detailed explications of the build of a DPSS green on this site somewhere - crystal types, lenses, distances, etc?

Thanks!

I think it's ghetto for:

"Indubitably, I do believe it would be exceptionally useful for us all were we to have an easily available tutorial in the archives specifically on the construction and alignment of green diode pumped lasers, indeed"

fo sho, yet mo so:

"Il est primordial que nous installions un cours d'instruction spécifiquement pour les moyens d'étudier et de compiler un laser à semi-conducteurs de pompe directe (DPSS) qui produira autour de 200mW et aura la capacité de brûler la substance, et avec celui d'instruction nous apprendrons et nous améliorerons en effet."

for those of you who know french: ;)

There's a crystal on ebay that is supposedly rated for a max of 4W.  With no need for fine tuning.

Look for:

1 watt 532nm green DPSS laser module! brand new! diode

under industrial lasers.

thats the one I was talking about, so I posted here to make sure... I saw that and it inspired me to make a DPSS laser
