I can print PCBs for about $5 per board, if I get like 3 orders to save my time. If that's too much let me know, competitive pricing means it's haggle-able :P

Device, equipped with 5mW green laser module, is consuming ~600mA.
Normally it's powered by wall wart supply unit 9-12VDC
I use battery only for field demonstrations.;-)

Schematic, BOM, PCB, HEX

Wow... very nice job! This is a def project coming up at some point

EDIT: Could this also be done with a blu-ray laser? That'd be pretty cool to see a violet/blue laser show too!

looks awesome, i think i will build this but i only want to manualy controll 3 motors.
i was going to buy these: 3 of them
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5129
but how can i make a speed controller for all three?
i think they are 12V, would that mean i only need a 12V battery to power them all.
and, i got no idea on amps for the motors, is it important? i guess that controlls speed...

plus... is this 'easy' to build?

thanks for anything help

Default Re: DIY PIC based laser spirograph

You would be better off with small DC motors, the sort used in the fans you find in 1 shops. they will run on AA batteries and can go from full speed to stop under full control.

Computer fans can be speed adjusted but not with such a range as other motors, they also only run in one direction (as far as I know). They also need many more batteries to get to full speed.

I use vibrator motors from mobile phones (with the wieght removed) you can pick them up from ebay for a couple of $ each are nice and small which keeps your build nice and neat.
