50x50x40... It's only slightly longer than my tiny LCD (45x25x15), but it'll still be the largest part. I want to make the meter as small as possible.

Thanks again Knimrod! And sorry... I feel stupid now.. :-[

Finally got my ebay order, going to gut the board tonight and test the head unit. I'll get started on the parts for the meter after a short visit to the hospital tonight.

wish I didn't go on vacation and stop reading the board when this buy started, but i'll manage with a basic blank board and plan everything on a breadboard. Come on people buy more board for the group buy, only 5 left. I really don't want to etch one myself lol. it would only end in pain... lots anf lots of pain ;D

i'll even pay for a second one if it helps get us closer =)
it's still cheaper and easier than trying to plot out a board myself.

i wish you luck on finding one, i don't think i'll ever let go of mine

your best bet is probably if someone was "quitting" the laser hobby and selling all their stuff

Gah, the suspense is killing me. I really hope the customs processed my thermopile today, so i can get it tomorrow.

I have everything else ready. Got a great looking grayish white enclosure, hardly big enough to house everything (11x10x6cm). I prepared the label for the front panel and everything.

But it's simply impossible for our customs office not to delay pretty much everything for at least three days. I want to start building! :)

Maybe i should peel off the reflective layer from the LCD and put in a blue EL foil while i'm waiting.. It would be cool to have background light for it.

EDIT: Tracking confirms they released it! Yay! It also shows they were sitting on it for five days.. Oh well, that's nothing compared to my BlueRays which they held for a month.

The thermopile arrived! Thank you Rossco!!!!

The outer shell had some ugly scratches on the front side, but it doesn't matter, as it will be hidden away in a box. It measures 2.4Kohm, so it works!

It will be a little bit of a tight fit, but i think i can squeeze it all in.

I was also thinking about something else. From Zarniwoop's pictures, it would seem, this thing would still work, if i took it out of the aluminum body. That way i could put it all into a much smaller handheld enclosure.

Are there any factors, that could affect its preformance, if it wasn't mounted in that block of alluminum?

drift, perhaps? I'd think that big Al block is acting somewhat like a thermal flywheel.

Exactly. You need the thermal mass to conduct the heat from the thermopile disc. Reducing that mass will degrade the performance.

Glad you finally got it. ;) All four of the ones I got had scratches in the same place. :( I colored mine with a sharpie.

I did the same. It's noticable, where it is sharpied, but it will be hidden away anyway.

The coating on the sensor plate is flawless tho. And it seems to work. Even with a cheap DMM i could see 1mV difference when i pointed a red DIY laser at it.

I will be measuring my lasers by the evening! :)

Thanks again Rossco!

BTW: The customs included the invoice you put in at the top of the package. So they did find it. No idea why they didn't send it with the notice. Luckily there were no complications, even tho the second one i sent them was different. Didn't even have to pay custom fees!
