Got my board today and quickly finished the assembly. It works very nicely. *I tested a few lasers:

1. Orig batch of Senkat Glowtorch Lasers ("defective" model): ~153mW (Increased Drive Level: now at ~200mW)!

2. DX Lab-type 100mW red: ~125mW

3. DX CR2 30mW Green: ~24mW

4. Cut-down (2xAA to 1xAA Li-ion) DX 30mW Green: Starts at ~45 mW and quickly drops to about 20mW

5a. Home Brew (1x 18650 Li-ion) w/ Senkat Sony red diode: ~115mW
5b. Home Brew (2x CR123 Li) w/ Senkat Sony red diode: ~155mW

6. Apollo Laser pointer (<5mW): ~4-5mW

7. DX 5mw Green (3xLR44 converted to 1x 10180 Li-ion and added an IR filter): ~4mW

8. Bluray on Charge2Go #1: ~8mW

9. Bluray on Charge2Go #2: ~78mW (wow - this one isn't going to last long!)

Here is the Bluray#2 being tested

That is sick! 10 times the power of the first one, with the same setup..

Others have to pay $400 for this kind of Blue Ray power..

I swapped out the dropping resistors on the 200mW red and adjusted the current up from 290mA to about 340mA. *This increased the output from 150mW to 200mW.

Here's a pic:

Very nice work Chimo! I like the new labels.

I really like the power switch too.. Is that a push on/push off?

Thanks! *My white on black Dymo cartridge buggered up so I had first used a black on red until I picked up a new cartridge. *The switch is a push button that I took out of something. *It is long enough to rest on the rear of the enclosure. *It is mounted with 2-sided sticky foam tape. My zeroing pot is actually a 5K pot (my 10K was not functioning). I soldered a 2.2K resistor on each leg so I could still get about 10K but with a finer granularity for adjustment.

Sweet fabrication Chimo!

Hey, we're discussing one of Milos' Blu-Ray units that my Kenometer is showing putting out 26mW at only 42mA (Weird I know) at this thread: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/fo...m=1205209155/0 Since Ken's meters use the same thermopile heads as the DIY ones I thought you may want to read the thread. We've pretty well ascertained that the coating on these thermopiles is spectrally flat, thanks to knimrod, who posted this:

I was wondering if you could pot your Blu-Ray wonder diode down to 42mA and see if you got a similar 26mW reading from your meter. (If that's possible) If we could reproduce (or exceed) the result then at least we'd know that it's possible. If not, we may not be able to trust these meters at this wavelength. (Milos' Coherent Laserchek read 16mW when he sold it to me)

It's a bit of a mystery right now, so I'd welcome any input you could offer.

Cheers, CC

Hey Guys I know I got into this late but for the rest of us is there a way we can just buy all the parts I would really think the Pic chip and the software/firmware would be the heart of it is there a way we can buy that at least then I guess we could just wire wrap stuff???? thanks of of course the whole thing would be great but unless I misunderstood the boards are no longer available? at least with the firmware/software we could try and kluge something ?

NO,

the Coherent Sensor is no longer available. Without it, the DIY is DEAD, unless another source appears.

No problem Chimo, Justin @ Laserglow is letting me bring Kenom's meter over to compare it to the various thermopiles and Lasercheck he has there. We'll hopefully be confirming that the thermopile heads everyone is using are accurate at 405nm and I'll be using Milos' BluRay to test, so we'll see what the pro meters say about it. I should be posting some results on Tuesday night.

Cheers, CC

That is great! I can't wait to hear, how these DIY meters compare to various others..

I just bought a sweet tiny display for mine, and the thermopile should start it's way to me very soon as well...

BTW, can anyone give me the exact dimensions of the thermopile? I would like to prepare everything before it gets here, and i want to buy a box of just the right size.. Not too big and especially not too small.
