also, I dont understand your resistor setup man.

look: no pot= okay

dont compensate the 100ohm pot with resistors, thats not needed

for a senkat diode (650 red) you need 5 ohms, or 2 10ohm resistors in parallel

for a blu-ray, you need at least 8v input, and a 33 ohm resistor

Wait... I thiught this driver worked for the Stonetek 16X (SLD1236V I think) Laser diode. Someone mentioned a 650mW senkat. If it is for this "senkat" one will it still work for my sony 16X? I hope it does, but if not can someone give me a link to a driver that will work (if this one doesn't) Thanks

WRONG

YOU NEED MORE VOLTS AND MORE RESISTANCE, NOT LESS

RED: 6v input 2 10ohm resistors in parallel

Blu-ray: 8v input and 33 ohm resistor

I think you left your caps lock on, but you realized it halfway through your post. *I think it was an accident, like my typo (more instead of less). *The guy can figure it out on his own by reading so we don't have 30 of these 53 pages just the same question. *Oh yeah careful of that caps key, and the big text, I think you accidentally clicked something to make it bigger.

You know, I must say YOU ARE NOT FUNNY!

I ddnt leave caps lock on, I HELD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY FOR THAT WHOLE LINE OF TEXT

I also PURPOSELY made the text BIG

not to be angry at you, but to make it clear to some new builders the correct configuration of thier drivers.

I do agree with you about reading the thread, but I doubt even you read all 53 pages goldfingerfif

P.S. there is a little font size setting to "click on" to make the text bigger if you didnt know

regards,

amk

I think the 1 watt resistors are those big ones. Radioshack has the smaller ones in a 10 pack(10 or 5 pack) for $0.99. Yeah you can use the 25 ohm pot.

I have made this driver just as described, and am pretty confident in its accuracy although I am getting an output of 5V to the LD and Im using a 6 volt power source. Isn't the LM317 supposed to drop the voltage around 3V from the input source? Anyways, any suggestions as to what the problem could be would be very appreciated. Thanks!

So... I got it mostly right I think. I had to use a 25-0hm rhetostat (is that the word?) and I had to use a 1-watt 10-0hm resistor. Also, whats the difference between capacitors? I think I got the wrong kind because they don't have the 47 uF in the right kind, I used an electryolic capacitor. If I can't use that, is there any other kind I can subsitute with? Sorry about the barrage of questions. Thanks for the help in advanced.

It doesn't matter what kind it is, it can be a tantulum or an electryolic, what's the uf in your capacitor, is it still 47?

I am using 10uf 16 volt capacitors. You don't need to use capacitors with higher ratings, but if you have them they are ok to use.

MTG18, you need to have a load connected to the output of the regulator for the voltage to drop. Have you tested your driver with a load?
