Here is my completed aluminum housing for my DIY GB red diode I just received from SenKat. It is standard aluminum tubing from Lowes and has standard plumbing fixtures for end cap and front aperture. It uses 2 CR2 lithium cells and also uses the standard DDL driver circuit found on the forum. I bought a powder coating gun from Harbor Freight for $39 on sale and bought a $28 toaster oven from Walmart to do the powder coat finish. I printed my own label using samples request from www.onlinelabels.com. What do you all think? I have no idea about power output as I have no meter but it is rawing 220ma so I'm guessing around 140mW - 150 mW?

It looks very professionaly made.. I first saw the pic and then read what it's made from.. Nice job! You could actually sell lasers looking like this. I imagine the heatsinking must also be very good in this setup.

Would two rechargable cells fit in there? If so, this would give you a much more stable output power over the entire battery capacity.

IgorT: Yes, it can be made to fit rechargeables as long as they have a slightly smaller diameter than Cr123a's. The CR123 cells actually fit slightly snug in the tube until the threads are cut in. Once the tube is threaded the top of the 123's catch on the threads pretty tightly. I have some rechargeable CR2's on the way from DX. Basically, you can cut the tube to whatever length you want so you could actually use 3 CR2 cells.

Pyro: Yeah, I love my new Nikon D80. I got it last spring and have been enjoying it all summer. I had been using a D70 since 2003. It was a nice upgrade! As a side note, now that I have revealed being a photographer I must appologize for my lousy pics ;) I promise it's because I'm lazy not because of skill or equipment ::)

Thanks for all the cool comments guys! If anyone wants to build this I can give details. It's really not hard at all. The powder coating was the easiest part of it all. I've never been very good with spray cans at all, and I thought for sure I would screw up the powder coat but it was easy and I was very pleased with the outcome for what little $$ I spent on the equipment. I may even entertain powder coating some small pieces for you guys if you want.

Ifin' you do decide to offer that service you should ask SenKat to sticky it, so it does not get lost
