Default custom heat sink for the Dorcy Metal Gear

I'm new to the forum and to making lasers. i bought the sony from here in the GB, i bought the Dorcy Metal Gear and the aixiz housing and 47uf 16v. every picture i see has the laser sticking out. what if i made a heat sink that was 1/2-1 inch longer and used the whole housing from the aixiz and not just the internals or the internal with a heat sink flush mounted. like the green laser points that cost like $500 i have seen a picture with a heat sink saying 3 min use with heat sink. looks mean noting i want to max my usage.

I'm thinking heat dissipation so i can run it longer then 30 sec. good idea or just get a heat sink that fit in the light housing?

if someone sells the heat sinks that fit the fit the Dorcy Metal Gear i'd buy them. i assume i need to have them custom made.

Well welcome to the forum. Stevetexas would probably be the one to ask about that. He has an excellent Dorcy Metal Gear mod. you can find it HERE

If looks mean nothning, you might consider a TEC module to actively cool your diode.
Will drain your batteries pretty quickly, so you'd have to change them quite often, or hook some higher-power battery pack to it.

you can flush mount the modules, but it makes adjusting the focus very difficult. with the focus adjustment easily accessable, we can all "focus on the fly"

(that is why you see them sticking out...)

The heatsinks can be bought online or at a local hobby shop. *I don't remember the exact inner diameter of the heatsinks so you'll need to do some research and take some measurements of the metal gear body.

The lasers I made don't require duty cycle from what I can tell (I've left them on over 45 min without significant heat build up or power fluctuation). *Sure, they will live longer if you duty cycle them though.
(the 5 ohm resistance unit is the most powerful and the exception - it will likely die a quick death in less than 24 hours of on time. *I'd duty cycle this one)

i'm going to use the 7.5 Ohm and when the flashlights get here i'll take it ot the hobby store and check out what they have. ace hardware is around the corner from me. i'll post a pic once i finish. should be 1-2 weeks depending on when i get all the parts.
