Guys here's my clip of test of my IR laser harvested from LG 20x DVD burner, IRLD was used as CDRW burner at 48x speed, i used 140mA as maximum current and input 3.6v or 3pcs AAA rechargeable (1.2v rate each).

Cool. Let us know how long it last like that. Do you have an IR camera? I actually got one of the CVS one-time use digital camcorders for $30 and removed the IR filter. But I don't have my IR laser yet. You could have lots of fun with an IR provided you use proper safety and have proper protection.

actually im using my IR laser almost 2 weeks til now, i was running it in 60 sec ON and 60 sec OFF for cooling it has minimal heatsink to absorb excess heat from the IRLD, i only use my crappy phone cam, i dont have a high pixeled cam. IR laser from CDRW was powerful enough to light a match, im using mine as much as 1 meter max. to do that, it takes 5 to 10 sec before ignition.

I used to use my phone camera to take pictures of the spot of some 780 nm diodes on the experiment I worked on. Phone cameras pick it up perfectly.
