OK, so I have Daedal's circuit finished up and going to dial it in tonight. It's mounted at the front of a Garrity flashlight, waiting for a Senkat diode to arrive. Problem is it's kind of a mess of components jumbled up in the front, and I don't want it ti short out on anything when I finally put it all back together. So I was wondering if I could encase the whole circuit in Fiberglass resin, and maybe leave a small opening for trim-pot adjustment. Would this work, or would it cause a component to overheat,etc?

I doubt it would overheat, it's not like it gets any airflow inside a flashlight casing anyway?
In theory it will act as a heatsink, just a very poor one..
AFAIK the diodes get hotter more rapidly than the LM317 so it shouldn't be a problem.
(In fact I've never even got my LM317 warm @ 200mA, it can drive like 1.5A)

the fiberglass would act as a heatsink for the circuit but I don't recommend having the diode attached when you do this. Few reasons,
1) you don't want to change getting anything on the diode
2) if you do cover the diode replacing it if it dies will just suck
But I think the idea you have here is interesting. Not sure how fast the Fiberglass can dissipate heat, that might be a problem with long duty cycles where sure it will run long but if the heat can't get drawn away from the circuit thats a problem.
