As an homage to DTR's Frankenstein....I present to ya'll

BRIDE of FRANKENSTEIN


First off this is a true bride of Frankenstein. Although it isn't anywhere near the size of DTR's...It is made up of Many different parts from all over my workspace.

The main tube is a piece of Carbon Fiber that I had laying around. Love this stuff and it looks great up close..a couple of the photos almost show the pattern on it.

The diode is a A-140 from DTR:thanks:
Flexdrive set at 1A
Pyro's silicone wire(don't know how I did it before without)
The battery it's running is a "Fireworm" 16340 1000mAh 3.7V

The rest is all kinds of different stuff!
I must say, it took me a good few days of looking at what I had...trying new things...attaching more stuff to make it work....really the hardest part, because I didn't want to cut into the Carbon Fiber, was to figure out some on/off mechanism. I'm happy with the solution that came to me eventually.

And to the pictures....

First off the diode exit. Here you can see the heat-sink for the diode and then around the heat-sink is part of Mohr adjustable host(didn't work out for me).
The lens holder is also from that same host. The part around the heat-sink fit perfectly around the HS and just in the main tube!...Front part done!

Here you can see the back end of the front HS...I put another heat-sink for the driver. Everything is held together with alot of arctic silver.

Same assembly but with the diode and driver installed. The heat-sink for the driver doesn't touch any metal in the host, as it's carbon fiber, but I figured that this was better than it just floating in mid air, wrapped in electrical tape.

Now on to the FUN part....The battery pill!
This took some time to design out of what I had around.
Hard to make out what all you are looking at, but its a few different parts for sure:beer:
The housing for the battery is the front part of a flashlight. It fit very nicely inside the carbon fiber and also held the battery pretty well. The threaded end of it fit perfectly to a middle connection for another flashlight you see on the right. The part with the green wire is from yet another flashlight..its from the tail end clicky, a plastic sleeve and spring.
The strip of metal and wire coming off it is the positive connection for the driver...you'll see in the next photo a little closer what it does.

Here you can kind of see my idea. It will become a "twist rear cap" activated power switch(best way I can describe it right now)
When the rear cap is twisted into the battery pill far enough it will make contact with the metal strip on top and feed the driver(I hoped, although after testing it with my Multi-meter it seemed to work fine)

Here is the rear cap...this one is really Frankenstein!
from the top of the picture to the bottom....
Top ring is a key ring thing...you can see the gap part for putting your keys on.
The next treaded part(doesn't thread into anything, just fit the carbon tube), this comes from the Mohrenberg host again.
Then I put a aixiz heat-sink that I had that doesn't fit an aixiz(not very usefull) but found a use for it.
The last part is a small reflector from some flashlight, all for the look, but fits it nicely!:beer:
(the clicky on the inside that you might reconnize was an idea that didn't pan out, and since I had secured it in there very well....it just stayed)

Here is the rear cap(missing the contact point for the pill...that was attached later). The front aperture sitting on its face with the driver heat-sink. Battery. and Host...you can see the pattern a little better here.

Inside the rear, looking at the battery pill. The tail cap screws in here and then makes contact with the positive side.

Welp, thanks for looking and hope ya'll enjoyed. Just goes to show that anyone can make a laser out of just about anything that might be around.:beer:

Very creative. Nice marble. Been looking for clear 1-inch ones...
 
Thank you very much. I am pretty proud of this one, took a bit of planning and design.;)
And as usual I was happy to see it fire up after everything was glued, and heat compounded in forever. :beer:
I haven't seen 1" cracked glass marbles of yet, just the smaller ones like the one in the photo.

I had the theme tune to the A-Team montage (the bit where they always get trapped in a shed and build tank from random bits lying around) playing in my head while reading about this build. ;)

Thanks, i'm pretty proud of it, just kept putting parts together until it worked. Its not supper powerful either, but I was just happy to see that blue light come out the end.:D
