I'd say your cheapest bet would be ebay, if you are fine with some standard sizes/values. If you want a special shape or power, you need to order it from a company, and then the price will jump.

Thank You, I think this is a must for further LD testing. It seems to me it would make testing alot safer and allow for high outputs.

I found this company that makes TECs with a little opening in them. I can't remember where they were form, but it's on the forum somewhere. They're perfect for cooling a diode as you can stick the diode right in... but the problem is once you have it setup as such, you would have to make your own collimating setup to collimate the beam since the TEC won't fit in an AixiZ module or any of the ready-made modules

Money money money... this hobby gets expensive QUICK!! ;D

High Octane,
You might want to read through this thread:

It is long but will pretty much explain what you can do to get started with the least amount of money. The biggest problem is finding small peltiers. I do watch ebay for them. A 4 watt peltier is ample to cool a diode.

Thanks DDL, I thought you might have some insite on this.

I'll do some searching and see if I can find the name of this co.

And to the Great Gazoo, Thanks as well, I'll be reading for awhile now.
I do have a few Peltier coolers laying around from computer overclocking, I believe that they are one and the same.

well, you could just buy a diode mount and bolt it onto something that has a tec and a heat sink. This mount would work for $25

thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=LM9F

Then you could just bolt it to a piece of aluminum and cool it with this TEC for $7.50

marlow.com/Products/productpage.asp?ProductID=209

You just put a heatsink that you buy from radioshack or take off of an old computer onto the other side of the TEC and you are ready to go.

That mount would be a pain to work with. I like the Meredith module with the acrylic lens the best and the optional mounting block. This makes it super easy to replace dead diodes or even to swap diodes and lenses around for testing. I just now found a TEC solution that I think would work well, even better than the marlow. Not a bad price!, Although I love the small double stacked http://www.ferrotec.com/products/thermal/modules/miniModules.php

Yes I do too, but they are hard to find at a reasonable price. I ordered 2 from an e-bay auction for $8 a piece. One broke so I replaced it with the other one. The neat thing about them is it only takes about a volt to keep the diode cool. The downside as I found is they are fragile.

I am thinking about the 5 for $10 deal on that auction. At that price they are a steal considering they already have the heatsink mounted...kinda like the no muss no fuss kinda thing..lol. But then there are these but I don't care for his shipping charges:

Man I love this place, I just found Gazoo's post with the link to Meredith web site, all the goodies to get, all the ideas to make reality! All the help and knowledge that everyone is so willing to share.
Thats what makes this place and its members so great.

Oh heck yeah...I agree. This place is a gold mine of knowledge. Of course if you order a meredith module, make sure to get the 5.6 mm to 9 mm adapter, the mounting block and the module with the acrylic lens. I ordered an extra adapter so I can just swap them out for testing different diodes if I need to. I know meredith is more pricey that Aixiz, but the parts are nicer too. And last time I ordered it only took a couple of days to get to me.
