I can confirm they are imperial screws. I have a set of Imperial Hex keys.

Thanks for checking the allen key size, I have a set on order.

I am still getting to know my unit; here are I and V plots for the pump diode. These were taken over 30' periods with 1 second sampling interval -not simultaneously-. I have cropped out steady-state regions.

And here are images of the spot 30 cm away from the head.

Post-warmup stock with fibre port 30cm

One thing I noticed inside the head is a pinhole-like aperture at the front, after the crystal assembly but before the exit window. It seems to be an afterthought, made from re-purposed sheet metal. However I don't recall seeing this in other units. Does your unit have it too?

Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info

Following on from my previous post, attached is a plot of output power fluctuation over 30 minutes. The unit, still as I received it, peaks at 5.6 mW.

I have removed the makeshift output 'pinhole' and it looks like it is a cut-out from some beverage can...picture attached. Removing this part made no measurable difference to the output power.

Mosc007,

I'm a technician at a small state university.

Is there any chance of adding a Comma Separated Value (CSV) output to your software with the wavelength in nanometers and pixel count? I'm putting five units into a undergraduate lab, and making up five units for free loan to local middle and high school teachers. It would be cool if we could get the spectral data into Excel for classroom purposes.

Funding is tight these days. I'm personally donating five units, and a couple of professors picked up the cost of the other five for STEM outreach.

Thanks,

Steve

It should be no problem to add a CSV output. I havn't used CSV so some sample data would be nice. Is it wavelength , Value and then next line same thing. Or is it continual wavelength , value , wavelength , value with no line feeds ?

I think I worked it out. Pretty simple really.

I have made it a 3 column CSV file. Pixel Number, Wavelength, Value. The Option to save it is under the Spectrum Menu.

Please test it and let me know. It's only the EXE file. Just copy it over the existing one. If its ok I will make a new install file.

Updated Spectro EXE file

I'll run you a neon spectrum from this unit I have here and our beat up old Ocean Optics this afternoon...

Thanks,

Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info

Today I was having a look at the entrance slit and filter on my spectrometer, images attached.

The entrance slit appears to be 50 microns, judging by the writing on it.

I am curious as to the purpose of the filter, particularly if it is related to this specific OEM application. Since these units are repurposed for very different spectral regions I wonder if the filter would interfere with the measured spectral intensities.

Would anyone have information on the input fibre used on these units? I mean the orange/black patch-cord.

Alex

Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info

I'm very happy to see the work on these has continued in my absence. Once I am able to get back into the ones I have, I'm sure it will all be informative. The slits on these units is physically different from the Ocean Optics ones. The later being a cylindrical hoider for the slit. I believe my USB2000 is 25 um, but it might be smaller. Fortunately, this information is in the firmware of the meter. I was unaware of a filter used in the B&W Tek units. I wonder what it is being used for and whether it needs to be there for our purposes.

The usual reason for the filter is called "Order Sorting" and is used to block spurious responses from the grating as light can fold over from higher order diffraction. The Richardson Grating Handbook goes into great detail on this...

That's great information, Steve, and the best explanation I've heard so far. :thanks: +rep

Hi together, i am new here, sorry for my bad english, but i hope you understand me.
I bought 6 of this units for an other DIY project...

https://hackaday.io/project/1279-ramanpi-raman-spectrometer

But you all did a great job, so i would like to be part of THIS projekt.

I tested several software i.e. this:

http://www.science-surplus.com/prod...es/SpectrumStudioSetup.zip?attredirects=0&d=1

All my devices function with this and you are able to calibrate the device with this ...

Thanks, chloderic. You should introduce yourself in the welcome section. I appreciate the links to new software that I may be able to use with these B&W Tek spectrometers. Nice to have you on board.
