Cool Any thoughts on this?

Any of you guys thought about possibly turning this MagliteŽ XL50? LED Flashlight into a laser? Could be a good first project for me! Is it even possible to turn it into a laser?

Yup, it's possible to turn into a laser. You just have to find someone to machine a heat sink for it.

If it's your first project it may be easier to start with something that's already available like the C6 so you don't have to figure out how to mount the driver and battery contact in that host.

Go for it then! Having the tools to make your own heat sink is a huge advantage when building lasers.

If you want challenge why don't you make a whole laserhost instead of just a sink.

Keep in mind that this flashlight is tiny, so it will become hot fast, not good for the diode

That is not really accurate...
I've seen no mention of the power output of the Laser
he wants to build.

There would be no heat build up problems with let's
say up to a 100mW to 200mW build...
He did say it was his 1st project.
