i'm looking to build a power meter, but it seems like knimrod's meter can't be built anymore :( the ebay seller doesn't have the sensor head available anymore.. are there any alternatives that wont break my wallet? ;D

yes a guy named laserbee on ebay has them from 30 mw to 1 watt 17$ to 100$ i bought the 70 mw one all you haver to do is connect it to a 10$ meter pretty accurate i'd -+ 1-2 mw

Careful, if they are the photodiode gizmos I think they are, their accuracy will vary greatly depending on the color laser you are measuring. On CPF I think there was a review of one compared to a real meter and it was 10% or worse.

Ok all of my previous posts are gone inthis thread and that makes me rather irritated as I would like to comment on Laserguys' insane post.

His initial post was that I would not be a good candidate to test the meter that jake21 has purchased as I am biased towards laserbee.

That may be the case.  However, my like or dislike of the seller is not going to skew my review or testing of the meter.  Just because I don't like someone is not an indication of how effectively I will test the meter.  Now I am inclined to believe that given his statement and the fact that he PM'd chido (you can find out the details here http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1209412239/75#75 in chido's last post.)
I'm also inclinded to believe that laserguys is laserbee as well

All the active members on this forum know that I'm a honest person and never let my biases toward someone sway me towards a product.

Sorry just thought this attack on my character had to be answered.

I'm new here and read a lot of threads and posts... I came here because some one said that there was a member by the name of knirod that was selling a DIY Laser Power Meter or plans.

I bought one of those 120mw modules from the guy on ebay a while back and it works good for me. Reading your posts on this LPM.. you make me feel stupid for buying what you call a "steaming pile of crap" . It works for me. Before that I had nothing.

With all the posts that I read since registering... I repeatedly see a post from you stating you don't like this ebay guy or his product. That's your choice. It has nothing to do with me.

But that seemed to be biased to me... and that is all I said "seemed to be" not "is".

The reason I PMed Chimo was because I was afraid to get ragged on by you for buying the ebay guys's LPM.

Since I am new here and don't yet know all the rules and pecking order of this site......... I sincerely appologize if I have ruffled any feathers...

I guess the best thing for me to do is shut up and just READ the posts.

Again I appologize to all involved....

When I state that the meter is a steaming pile of crap it's not a personal attack on your integrity as a person. It's an attack on the meter itself and the individual that sells them. I never intended you to take it as a affront on yourself. Most of the time that I tell folks about the meter is so that they don't go thinking that what they have is a worthwile laser power meter. it's accurate to a degree. but so is shining a laser into an led and trying to see how powerful it is. As is shining it on a black surface and seeing how well it burns. Your going to get a ballpark idea of how much power your laser is putting out but not much more than that. I am not the only one that is stating thus.. it came from lava as well above and he's more knowledgable in electronics than I. This site is based on sharing of information and as such, I share the information that I've gathered. Nothing more. If you have taken my relation of information as anything other than such, I apologize. It was never my intention.
