yeah I was thinkin overkill myself with the antec stuff. That's why I recommended the clay. it's cheap and would be easy to remove if you ever needed to. You could also use JB weld it's grey but a little to dark. The neat thing is you can always paint over it with a simple testers silver.

My CO[sub]2[/sub] had an aiming system like that - three IIIa diodes strapped around the tube 120[sup]o[/sup] from each other wired in series with a switch and 9V wall transformer. I dismantled it in a failed attempt at an enclosure, but I'll definitely do it again this summer.

Yeah. I figured out that part of the problem was that I neglected to remove the "warning sticker" that the Sure modules have wrapped around them. The height of the stickers not only gave the modules a "pivot point", they are "slippery" as well. I finally compromised and set them to converge at about 36". That allows for a very gradual spread of the targeting pattern. If I do another one (or maybe more, Comic-Con is coming in July), they will be parallel.

And yes, the dots looks good moving in unison.

Peace,
dave

Man this is really cool! Nice work.

This thread made me think of something. This might be too time consuming to consider, but if you could get multiple (3) burning lasers hooked up to a zoom scope with a crosshair that could automatically focus all the lasers onto one spot you would essentially have just one really awesome laser right? Just a thought...

I forgot to mention this last night. I think I forgot it because I forgot to get any pictures of it. However, when I was playing with my new fog machine, these three beams moving in unison looked really coooool 8-)

yeah you're right... alot of time.

To focus three beams at the exact same point based on distance x, within a reasonable amount of time, would mean that you would have to simultaneously and congruently change the angle of the three housings in contrast to the imaginary central axis that lies between them. Meaning once you got it focused on something say... 10 ft away from you, and you wanted to put it on something 100ft away, you would have to restart the process of adjusting the angle of the three housings. Unless of coarse you had a complex housing with a lot of lenses and optics converging each beam into one.

You have a good point there. Rigging up the optics would be a lot easier than having to do vector calculus every time you want to point the thing in a different direction ;D. There are already a ton of optics in dvd burners anyway, I think it could be done... but I guess that belongs on another thread. Smart thinking, Gr8.

Calculus? I really dont see what you mean reavealing. Assuming you rig up the three modules equidistant from the center, and are all evenly around the perimeter(1/3D between them) it would be easily possible. You would just have to find a convex lens that would fit and have the right focal length( just use lenz's law) so you could focus the three to a dot... Dont make me create a ray diagram *:P

If I were to use 3 burners it would probably just be for show, but much more brilliant! Or I might focus them all and burn three different spots! :P

You can't use a lens to intersect the beams. The lens will also make the individual beam converge/diverge. :P You could do this without "vector calculus" or actually combining beams, just a rig that once it's calibrated, you just have to turn a screw to adjust distance.

I didnt quite read his post fully so I thought he meant just focusing to a point, not combining beams *
EDIT: re read it... Im pretty sure he meant just a point... Btw nice diagrams
