Default AAAAAAHHHHHHH  !!!!!!!   Thanks Desslok

Thanks for asking the diode question.

I was having a problem the other night with voltage being higher than I liked, the ddl on 7.2v lithium thread. I couldnt adjust things to get below 3.14-3.17v without dropping my mV to the 50's.

I just had the light go on!!!!! I think that I have my 1N4001 in backwards so it is not giving the .7 voltage decrease!!!! I'll have to check it when I get home.

Ken

sorry to offend you. With all the new threads to read, im sure I was responsible for wasting 4 seconds of your time.

If it is really an issue for you, I appologize and maybe should have posted it under my previous post.

A few kind members were offering some advice on why my voltage was staying above 3V and the light went on as to my problem.

Except that on the other thread you have posted on,
it has been pointed out that your thinking is wrong I believe......

Thanks Rog,

I still have to set things up tonight so I will test the voltage with the diode in both positions and see if there is a dif between the two

The diode is used in parallel for reverse polarity. So if you test it in one direction, the output of the regulator will be zero. If you test it when it is properly wired up (with the band side of the diode soldered to the adjust of the 317), the regulator will provide the full output.

Therefore, the only way to prove to yourself the diode is not causing a voltage drop at the output is to measure the output voltage of the regulator with, and without the diode in the circuit.

If you want to, take a diode and put it in series with the output, then you will be able to measure the voltage drop of the diode.

It is posts like yours that make it all worth it.. Your laser should be able to light non-sharpied safety matches instantly. Have fun with it and be safe.

I've got it tuned down to about 180mW might jack it up in a while and push the envelope, it's only a diode!!!
